Scores of Americans are in an uproar since Food Safety News revealed the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will soon allow U.S. chickens to be sent to China for processing before being shipped back to the states for human consumption.
This arrangement is especially disturbing given China’s subpar food safety record and the fact that there are no plans to station on-site USDA inspectors at Chinese plants.

Also, American consumers won’t know which brands of chicken are processed in China because there’s no requirement to label it as such.

A similar process is already being used for U.S. seafood.
According to the Seattle Times, domestically caught Pacific salmon and Dungeness crab are being processed in China and shipped back to the U.S. because of significant cost savings.

This is old news. Haven't eaten any chicken that my wife didn't cut up since this came out.

Really tired of foods labeled "distributed by" that don't say what country they are made in. I will not eat anything labeled as such.

I wonder how many of them are made here and don't say it. I don't know why they wouldn't label it as made in USA.

I actually would love to see the numbers on this. It's really hard to believe it is cheaper to ship it back and forth across the Pacific than to pay US wages to process it.

...I was thinking the same thing! And even if it is currently "cheaper", then I am sure the US based processing can figure out how to compete :dunno:

this shits been going on in the seafood industry for a lot longer than Obama has been president denny. whole cod harvested in Alaska
were/are frozen whole on plate freezers, containerized and shipped to china. offloaded, thawed filleted refrozen shipped back to the usa for distribution and sales. look for the catch words "refreshed" on packaging. theory is/was the guts and feathers(milt, roe, tongues, cheeks, livers and eyeballs) all had Asian markets and more money could be realized using cheap Chinese labor as well. your dinner table meets the global economy. Enjoy!

Bush isn't president. Obama is in charge of the FDA and USDA. Where does the buck stop?

And why should I care? Because I don't.

Bush isn't president NOW. What does he have to do with how the USDA and FDA are run?

And why should I care if the fish and whatever else are processed in China?

So we should use waterboarding, right? Because Bush administration did it.

    I don't get your logic.

I never ever implied that any of it is acceptable only hypocritical to be opposed to the practice now and not then

I don't oppose the practice. If you have a beef, YOUR GUY has had 7 years to do something about it. He loves to do things by Executive Order, and this is exactly what Executive Orders are actually for.

There have been many cases of where Chinese made products have been dangerous or unsafe to American consumers.
