OK, looking at the standings as of right now, there are more loosing teams than winning teams in both the American League AND National League... The AL has 6 teams with a winning record, 7 with a loosing record, and 2 with a .500 record. The NL has 7 teams with a winning record and 8 with a loosing record. Just found it odd that in a league with 30 teams, a tad more than half way into the season, there are only 13 teams with a winning record, 2 less than half the teams... you kinda expect it to be about 50-50 in each league
Last year was about even and at the end of the year I would expect it to be about the same. That being said if baseball really wants to improve the game for the fans I'd like to see several things happen. In no particular order 1) The All Star game deciding home field in the World Series is one of the worst decisions in history. Especially if you're going to have the fans voting. Go back to the two leagues alternating and accept the fact that sports AS Games all suck. This was the lowest rated AS game in history. Enough is enough. 2) Enough with the pitchers batting. It's well beyond the time that this nonsense ended. It should be a uniform league and would open the door for little more league wide offense. 3) Tell the umpires once and for all. If they want jobs in MLB there's a strike zone. Not their interpretation of the strike zone. It's maddening watching what goes on every night with some of the strikes that are being called on batters. The pitchers are dominating enough right now without getting calls on pitches six inches off the ground. I'm sure there's more people can add.
Mess...totally agree on ALG format and Umps. I'm not opposed to DH league wide, but need to be convinced that a uniform league has greater value.
I agree completely! I would add: 4) Enforce a timer for pitches... Minors do it and it works well... these games drag too damn long...
I don't care about DH or no DH just get the damn game even all around. The ASG should return to what it was and exhibition game with improved selection methods. World Series home play alternated successfully for years until Bud Lite had to make more "sweeping changes"
Francesa actually made a good point or two yesterday on his show in regards to the All Star Game. He said that years also the game was about the biggest stars. For the most part that's who filled the rosters. You didn't get this nonsense where .240 hitters are starting. Also, when it came to the big stars you didn't see them all of the time on national television like you do today. The bottom line is you have a game that nobody cares about anymore regardless of whether home field is on the line or not. To be it's just a complete bore just like the other three major sports version of it.
I've long appreciated and enjoyed The Future's Game, quit a bit more-so, than the MLB AS Game..... and no doubt, the method of picking AS Players, is strewed.....
