The Yankees once blasted for ruining baseball with there wild spending aren't even close to having the highest payroll now. That honor belongs to the Dodgers who are spending money like its falling off a backyard tree with not a whole lot to show for it. TOP 5 TEAM SALARIES............... 1) Los Angeles Dodgers = $271M 2) New York Yankees = $217M 3) Boston Red Sox = $184M 4) San Francisco Giants = $173M 5) Detroit Tigers = $172M Dodgers & Yankees over $50M apart & they basically have the same record. Dodgers & Giants almost $100M apart & the Giants are only 2 1/2 games behind them. Yankees & Red Sox are just over $30M apart & the Yankees are 10 games OVER 500 while the Red Sox are 10 games UNDER 500 (gotta love that)
Aren't close in $$$... Are close in the rankings... And I didn't see it, but #5 Tigers are in 3rd in the central at 10.5 games back of the Royals right now... 4 back of the 2nd place Twins...
Hell in the next 2-3 years unless the Yankees go free agent crazy there payroll will probably dip to under $150M.
One of the local lovelies here n St Petersburg (Rays Fan) told me she couldn't afford to go to a baseball game because the Yankees drove up ticket prices. I told her that not being able to afford tickets was her problem, always plenty of room at Tropicana to get a lower price. Hell even the last series the Yankees played could not draw 1/2 crowd capacity.
