...better hope Seve is as good as some think. ...but I know that emotions vary depending on the prevailing winds...if Seve does well, it'll be "see, I told ya there was no need for any serious moves" (pitching/2B)...but if he gets beat up, it'll be "oh, it was just nerves and besides, it was only his first game".
Problem with cashman is he can't commit to bringing up a kid from the farm and let that kid develop. We would never of had a Core4 with Cashman at the helm.
...yup...and I think if you're gonna call up a youngster for the first time it should be in a low leverage situation or early in the season...of course it would really help to take the pressure off of these young hurlers like Severino and/or Warren if the Yanx staked them to as many runs as they typically do for CC and Eovaldi.
Imo severino will be lights out and trashmans hand will be forced to leave him in rotation. Probably in the minority here but glad trashman didn't trade our top farm guys as usual. Tired of all the veteran rentals that never work out for us. If mitchell pitches well also that cc summit may finally happen
Don't blame them for not trading prospects for two month rentals. I would just like to see at least an attempt to improve. I think they could use atleast a veteran arm as insurance. Severino is really a no brainer. The worst thing that happens is he gets hit. That being said the MLB experience he gets will be of far better value to him and the organization. Dominating AAA for the rest of the year does what? Even if it's a couple of starts it would be better for him to come up and help put the big club. I fully keep in mind he's 21 and might have some growing pains
Screw Joba. The guy was a head case and that's all there is to it. Enough of the the excuses. A zillion other pitchers in this league have done just fine.
With that mindset never bring anybody up. It might hurt their feelings. Dwight Gooden was up at 19 blowing people away.
It's not a mindset, the org must do whatever it can to bring this kid along properly, if rushed it could have serious repercussions .. Me , I'm all for bringing up the rook, remember, the show is a completely different world.
True but to me has has shown he can dominate AAA. I don't see what doing that for another month accomplishes. It's time to give him a chance even if it's while Pineda gets healthy.
...Gooden was a one in a generation player...and comparing Severino to him in any way is unfair. ...yes, there have been a precious few young pitchers come into the league and go on to stardom...but for every one that did, 10 more were exposed and fell on their face.
...though his W/L record is very good he's not really dominating in AAA like he was in the lower levels of the minors...he's not blowing AAA hitters away by any means...I hope the kid does well but my expectations are more tempered.
then there was Bob Feller at 17, a 5-3 W/L record, 3.34 ERA, and 76 K's in 62 IP. Tho' he was a work in progress; kept refining his skills, and exploded at 19 yrs of age, and at 20 Won the Triple Crown of Pitching, and was Major League Player of the Year, as well as TSN Pitcher of the year.... Tho' he wasn't a Pitcher, the Legendary Mel Ott began His career also at 17. Back in the days, when it was ok, to forge papers, under the table...
