Okay this makes a ton of sense now. The two major supporters to give the farm for Boogie also support Melo. Okay I'm done with this debate.

I also wanted us to trade Batum+draft picks before the all star break.

    You're welcome.:blazerwookie:

I'm really trying to get invested in the roster we have but still can't name the team top to bottom without forgetting somebody.

So because he struggles on defense he's a headcase? HAH.

    http://mweb.cbssports.com/nba/eye-o...ing-jr-smith-iman-shumpert-tough-to-deal-with
Sounds like him and JR were close. I don't remember anything about him throwing him under the bus. Link something?

And what coaches are we talking about? I feel like you're making that up, but try to find me something about how he had his coaches fired, because everything I just read was that he had Mike Woodson's back.

I'm not a Melo supporter, you're just a Melo hater who claims he's a headcase when hes not.

Comparing us getting Boogie to NYK with Amare and Melo is like comparing apples to oranges, because of the flexibility we'd still have. We'd still have max cap space with the ability to attract a big name. We'd be Durants best option to win, because we'd have more talent, more spacing, and better defense. It would also allow us to get good vets who have cashed out through their career (Joe Johnson).

So your telling me you'd rather bank on the "potential" of this group, instead of throwing the house at Boogie and having the potential to get someone like Durant? Cmon now.

In 5 years, if we trade for Boogie the best case scenario is he loves it here and we're able to attract big free agents to win a ring. Worst case is he has problems and we our a 7th or 8th seed playoff team.

In 5 years, the best case with this group is if we get a top 3 pick, guys hit their potential and we end up a 5-8 seed
The worst case is that they don't fulfill their "potential" and we end up a lottery team for years to come.

Sure buddy. Whatever you say. Melo isn't a headcase. We should go all in and give New York everyone of our young prospects except dame to get him. He's legit

Somehow saying he's not a headcase means I like his game? No, it not. I'm not denying he's one-dimensional, I'm denying he's a headcase... Pretty simple.

Thing is, I just asked for stuff to support your side of the argument and you still didn't so I'll just leave it at that

I disagree. Best case with this squad is Vonleh is Chris Bosh-level good, Alexander is the next Deandre Jordan, Montero taps into his elite talent to become another McGrady, Connaughton replicates Kyle Korver, and we have the next NBA dynasty.

Of course we know that's not going to happen, but to pretend that the ceiling for our current roster is a 5 seed is intentionally obtuse.

I mean best case scenario on this planet, not fantasy island on a planet in a different galaxy haha.

    Best case: Vonleh 20/10
    Leonard 18/10
    McCollum 17/4

With that being achieved in what, 3 years? we'd be about the 5th best offensive team, and a middle of the pack defensive team. Sounds like a 5th seed to me.

Those three putting up those numbers, with Dame being a 20/8 guy himself (which he likely would be)...definitely a contender. Come on--what was the last team that got 75ppg from just it's top 4 scorers and wasn't a contender? Gotta be kidding me...

And you gotta realize, there aren't many teams that are able to get out of purgatory on draft picks alone. The Timberwolves, Kings have been treading water for years. The ones that do are almost always fringe playoff trams at best. The Jazz in the near future, the Celtics, the Magic in the near future, the Pistons, the Cavs would've been if LBJ hadn't returned....

The tears that take risks to trade for stars usually end up better off. The Clippers, the Rockets are two great examples. The 2008 Celtics... the Lakers with Pau.

    How bout the 2013-2014 Blazers?
    Aldridge 23.2ppg
    Lillard 20.7ppg
    Matthews 16.4ppg
    Batum 13ppg
    73.3PPG...

And they would be just as bad devensively if not worse.

This squad has several solid defensive players, and would actually have a bench. That team has a fantastic starting five, no reserves worth anything, and still won a playoff series. This squad, if the players you payed reached potential that you specified, would be significantly better than the 2014 team. No doubt.

fine. Theres a 10% chance this team could be a 2 or 3 seed. Is that what we're banking on?
If we got Boogie there would be at least a 10% chance we got Durant and won a ring...

And that's just assuming we didn't add anyone else in free agency, add a top draft pick, trade pieces that didn't fit for other players who did, make a lopsided deal at this year's deadline using our cap space, etc...

I'm not only not sold on the idea that this squad can't develop into a contender; I'm also not sold on Boogie as a cornerstone piece of a contender himself. There are players that I'd want to pay the going rate to bring in, but he's not one of them.
