Ariel Helwani has confirmed that the UFC will stubbornly go ahead with the "title holder gets an immediate rematch always" clause and Werdum/Velasquez will happen sometime around the new year. Velasquez will only have fought three different men since November of 2011.

In related news top contender Stipe Miocic will face Ben Rothwell around the same time and JDS/Overeem is also a go.

I have a feeling a lot of this is because Werdum has been campaigning for a rematch. I find the whole situation rather strange. He beat Velasquez down with no issues, why is Werdum calling for a rematch? I expect Stipe to walk right through Rothwell and get the winner.

Yeah IIRC Werdum called for a rematch right after their first fight was over. I don't know why. You'd think he'd want to avenge the loss to JDS more- especially now since JDS is a half-zombified version of himself from 2008.
