...I was impressed with this kid during ST, and I'm even more impressed with him now. Not only playing well on both sides of the ball, but also seems to have a very unassuming demeanor and approach. No "hey look at me" arrogance when he makes a play but instead, goes about his business like a seasoned vet. ...it's been hard for me to be passionate and connect with this year's team as opposed to teams from the past because since Jeter retired I have no one to really perceive as the "face of the franchise"... maybe Bird or one of the other up and coming youngsters will fill that void...I sure hope so.
I've also been impressed Ron, you'd never know this kid was a rookie the way he handles himself. And I see a lot of Paul O'Neill in him.
Saw Bird being interviewed by Kenney, Rosenthal, and Sherman post game. The man was straight up, cool as a cucumber. Bird and Sevey are guys we can cheer for and believe this franchise is going in the right direction.
...^^^I was glad to hear he was only given a fine and probation for that morals charge...the girl swore she was 18.
Wow, we've long been asking where and how your doing...... You were one of the finer posters on the old BSPN Boards, it'd be great to see you more often Lou.....
Hey guys been a while. Such a nice welcome from you. Having a discussion on Facebook about the retiring of numbers. Hammer and I feel it's gotten out of hand and only HOF players deserve it. Opinions? ?
...gave my take in this thread...others share the same view; http://www.sportstwo.com/threads/yankees-vs-indians-8-22-15-1-05pm.288838/#post-3698913
I find it completely ridiculous at this point. It's taking away the meaning of it. The ones from that era who should be honored in that fashion are Jeter and when it comes to Mo it's a retired number anyway.
OK so we're not the only ones. I agree Messiah those 2 and Torre's 6 should be the only ones retired unless somehow others make it to the HOF
...^^^ ditto One would think, the Yanx would have a Monument Park for nothing but HOF'rs, and perhaps a total separate area, for 'Honorable Mentions'......... it is absurd indeed, to see all those numbers retired, when many aren't even close to the HOF caliber, players........ Not that I want to take away the fond memories of Yankee Greats, who will never be in the HOF, but yeah, perhaps an "honorable mention" for Yankee Fan Favorites..........while NOT retiring those Fan Fav Numbers........
after thought: I doubt I will live long enough to see number 100 or A3, or 4A, or even 042C, et al.....it will be interesting to see, to say the least, when the Yanx max out, and MLB will need to come up with an alternative numbering system.......... However My 3 Sons will..........
