I think this was the deal and Neil realized paying Pekovic $12M for the next 3 seasons might be counterproductive in the long run.

Wouldn't we be able to buy him out?

Why would we want to? You still have his contract on where it matters. Sure you can spread it out for another couple years, but that's foolish IMO. Only way you take on Pek is to get a legit player on a rookie contract to go along with him.

Don't make yourself look bad by saying that was your first thought! Realistically though, that wouldn't shock you?

Was just overexagerating but no if we dealt Lillard it wouldnt shock me but id just assume it would be for a better deal then Utah got for Williams.

Because we could probably buy him out for around $20M, and decide to not spread it out and to allocate it this year only. We'd maintain flexibility while adding an asset.

Soooo after signing him to a max deal and him saying he loves it here and wants to stay it wouldn't shock you? Say what you want but I don't believe you.

Regardless, it makes no sense. Pek only takes time away from our youth. He's not good enough to sacrifice that development

it must be the real dog daze of summer when a thread about a rumored possible trade with unnamed players won't die and goes 4 pages! LOL

What an athlete says to the media regardless if its true or not has no meaning on if the GM trades him. He may want to stay here and the organization obviously loves him and isn't actively trying to trade him but if lets say the Timberwolves, since thats what started this thread, offered a blockbuster deal of KAT and Shabbazz for Lillard then I think Olshey would take that offer. There are only a handful of players in the entirety of the league that i'd be truly shocked if I woke up and saw they got traded. Its Lebron/Harden/Curry/Davis, other then that I wouldn't really be shocked. Being shocked at what a player is traded for is a different thing entirely though.

Bennett just might be the worst #1 overall pick ever. I wouldn't even want him as a 3rd stringer.

I know that draft wasn't great, but how they felt that he was worthy of that pick is beyond me.

I know this won't go over well, but for all you saying you wouldn't want him as a third stringer, keep in mind

Leonard PER his second year 9.4 10/11/.5blks per 36
Bennett PER his second year 11.4 12/9/.6blks per 36

For all you who have hope for Leonard, keep those numbers in mind. It takes bigs longer, that's what you all say

Fair point but the article I read about nobody wanting him said he not only doesn't have a high basketball IQ but lacks a motor and gets paid more than other sophmores with his number one pick status. He's an expensive project even if you take him on as a project. Wolves probably contacted us because we have cap space and few teams do.

With that said, maybe it's that we don't want him as a third stringer on THIS team because we already have two project bigs in Leonard and Vonleh. Even if you're still skeptical of Leonard, I think Vonleh is clearly a better prospect than Bennett and I'm against having too many young bigs who need minutes.

He measured 6'7" WITH shoes. He does have a 7'1" wing span, but I would rather have Vonleh who has a 7'4 1/4" wing span. And we don't need both IMO.
