I question whether he is truly a game changer or not though... his first comments showed very little in superstar caliber.
maybe not just disgruntled players but under performing teams divesting themselves of contracts or turning in a different direction like we did in free agency?
horford and the hawks could be a trade partner if last years success can't be sustained? they resigned millsap and traded for splitter this offseason and horford enters free agency next season
Why would we give anything up when we'd have a slim chance of resigning him? Why wouldn't we wait till the offseason?
Kevin Durant would be considered a grand slam. Demar Derozan or John Wall would be considered a home run.
if you can get him for cheap or if he commits to resigning then yeah you go after him. I think Bledsoe and Horford would be the start of something great.
Exactly. Spurs got the biggest FA for nothing this year. Nothing. And if we would have tried to trade him before the deadline, how much do you really think we would have got? Not much. And anyone who thinks otherwise is living a bigger pipe dream than some people see this thread as... The only angle I see on this is FA is a tougher way for us to get a game changer. that's why I think about more of the disgruntled player type still under contract who doesn't have as much say as a player becoming an FA. But Definitely. What game changing FA's might not fit into the teams future entering the trade deadline?
Threads like these always bring out the....nobody will want to come to Portland ...fans. They also usually assume that a player's production or role on their previous team will carry over to Stotts system. I think it's worth talking about but anything discussed is going to be a reach. So far Neil Olshey has shown the ability to attract interest from players just like Nate talked Crawford into coming here. These scenarios are all just plan B possibilities if players we are counting on don't produce results. CJ McCollum has yet to play an entire healthy season. That's my red flag with him. When it comes to star or allstars, Griffin would be the guy who Olshey could sweet talk more than Durant or LBJ
If the Cavs don't meet expectations, they'll have to move someone like Kevin Love to shed salary..the deadline is for taking advantage of teams that are underachieving and overpaying
I missed Al Horford. he is in his last year? He would be high on my list then, especially since one of their key guys already left for Toronto. This could be viable.
I can see a number of teams that might "blow it up" including but not limited to ,Atlanta, chicago, Washington, charlotte(perennial candidate), phoenix(slather is notoriously cheap), and OKC if they significantly under perform. don't forget the possibility of melo souring on the big apple and losing.
Good call. Maybe might be easier to list the teams who have good potential to falter and thus want to blow it up by trade deadline. Then from the list of teams, find the type of game changer that could fit with this system? Obviously a few names being tossed around are already from these teams. I never watch east coast basketball though, so for most of these teams listed being from the East, I know little about their rosters and the contracts behind them. You mention Chicago as a potential blow up team. Hmm I wonder about that one though. If they decide to blow it up, do you think Rose would be a good fit?
And I said we could work out some sort of sign and trade, so he is under contract when he comes here.
I like Horford, but Korver seems fairly one dimensional to me no? I know he is lights out from Three, but what else does be bring to the table to make him a game changer? I wouldn't consider him a game changer. I would consider him a great starting role player.
