    So, because the child is black, that makes the commercial racist? Would it not be racist for the commercial's producer to say, "I'm sorry young man, your facial expressions are perfect for this spot, but we can't hire you for it because you're black."?

    The only thing I'm sure about that commercial is that it's an odd South African commercial.

    Seems to me that the ad makes its point pretty effectively: people are willing to spend more taking care of their pets than they are in helping to feed the hungry children of the world. The fact that the majority of children in the world that don't have access to enough to eat are not Caucasian is played up in the ad by using a black kid as the "pet", but that's kind of the point.
