...matts, the thing that amazes me about the people who complain about cops in their neck of the woods is that they fail to realize just how bad things would be without them.

One fundamental right of American Citizens that many forget about is the right to be protected. That being said leads me to think that anyone who shots a cop after being convicted should be used as a training aid for officers and dogs going through K-9 training. The individual would not be furnished the protective padding just be a target for the dos. If the pass on in action well think about what you did to deserve it. The same punishment would be awarded to and individual who shoots a law enforcement dog.

Also, any Cop who is convicted of wrongfully killing an unarmed civilian.
There must've been at least 6 or 7 wrongful killings by officers of unarmed people in less than a year. It looks as if things are getting worse.
It's disgusting. Want law and order? Or do we want a climate where the chances of getting murdered by a police officer are increasing?

This shit has to stop. Get pulled over in the middle of the night by an officer and you feel as if the chance of you getting shot rises with every little innocent move you may make.

Of course we MUST respect law and order AND it's officers.
And we also are paying the salaries while we cooperate and follow the law.

I don't believe any of us should become a bunch of blind sheeple who shuffle along and are made to feel as WE are under boot heels.

Do your job with respect, caution and poise.... or get the fuk off the force.

    Period!

...there are over 900,000 law enforcement officers in the US... there are gonna be a handful of loose cannons in every profession.

...but if a cop gives you an order, you follow it.

It's a tough job - there has to be a better way of restraining and immobilizing suspects or perps who are clearly unarmed.
It's almost nearing the point, where it isn't far-fetched for some not to be surprised if a petty thief is shot (by law enforcement) while fleeing with a loaf of bread under his/her arm.

There are hundreds of other people affected by these instances - family, friends, onlookers, neighbors.....it's creating friction and bad feelings-
ALSO for the Police Officer's family....terrible thing.

Getting arrested and thrown in jail is one thing....getting killed when not resisting or being unarmed before you arrive at the Station House is another thing.

I actually think an 18th century ranch hand on horseback with lasso can do a more efficient and less problematic apprehension and arrest than what we've seen in many many of these episodes.

There HAS TO be a better "cleaner" way of taking down obvious unarmed subjects where the officer is in a safer less stressful situation/position.

And I believe it doesn't necessarily have to be "high tech".

In this neck of the tumbleweeds, what once was almost a quiet one horse town, went south too fkn quickly, all because some local voters thought building a damned Mega - Prison would create "all these great jobs", yet didn't put a dent in local employment, only an increase in crime(s)........

and-yep, you hit the nail on the head, its really true, you do read minds, .....^^^ thanks for thinking me what to say......

thanks for the URL also.....I wasn't even aware of it, see, again, you read my mind, gave me a mental road map.......

The real problem we have are the way policing is being done in 2015. Hear me out because this is my pops theory and he's 3rd generation law enforcement, served 30 years.

In the 70s, cops were a hybrid of HS gym teacher/coach, guidance counselor/psychologist, marriage counselor and first responder (fireman/paramedic). The race riots found cops outmatched and then the drug wars of the 80s, cops were out gunned. So slowly the profession changed, first were civil service exams and a preference to vets with infantry backgrounds. Their unions won a lot of concessions in the 90s and pay increased significantly, attracting more college grads. Gone were the days where beat cops grew up in these neighborhoods and within these communities.

Pop retired in the mid 90s but was active in the union and as a mentor. Over the next 20 years, 3 serious changes happened (1) affirmative action and diversity metrics resulting in the lowering of standards, and (2) 9/11 drawing more qualified people into military service, resulting in less candidates for cops and further lowering of standards. (3) The people training as cops now are children of the age of social media, and do not have the social/personal skills cops of the past had. This has led to more assertiveness training with an emphasis on military tactics (swat...break things) as opposed to peacekeeping.

This is what we are seeing today just that the bad apples stand out much more. And as a self fulfilling prophecy, the more the public rails against the profession the more insular the thin blue line becomes. There is no simple solution except:

Detailed performance/psyche test for all cops....weed out the ranks
Political will to back them including new penalties for resisting arrest, assault of officers, etc...especially for minors to be charged as adults
Cops back in high schools...kids need constant exposure.
Centralize swat teams...they can be deployed throughout, but change the command/control structure

As a corollary, more crime favors stronger 2A (more self reliance, less dependence on cops) and big city police chiefs are huge anti-2A proponents. All cops need to sign a pledge to uphold the Constitution as a job requirement. They need better training for lawful citizen open and concealed carry.

In the 70s we also had a touch of the self imposed vigilante, out of sheer need. A lack of Law Enforcement in this THEN one horse town, and I clearly recall holding a Bowie Knife to the neck of a POS, who broke into my Lil' Sisters house, and beat her up...........

I told fk (seriously) 'this town is not big enough for both of us, so get the hell out of Dodge by Sundown', and.........the POS fkr did, flew to Carson City and has never returned........

kinda like Charlie Bronsons Death Wish, without the .44 mag.
