vs Cleveland & Texas 2-5, vs Houston & Oakland 3-4, vs Philly 1-2, vs Washington 1-3, and finally vs Toronto 4-8. Cleveland and Texas took 6 of 7 at Yankee Stadium, Toronto swept a series at Yankee Stadium. Team problem areas and solutions were not met in a timely matter end resulting is a possible 3 straight years of no playoffs or as Dire Straits once sang "Money for Nothing" as this team continues to get its butt kicked by the bargain basement retail varieties. No wonder the fans are pissed!
Yep, and rightfully so. This Yanx Team has become a "pretender" to the throne. Not even in the same League as the 96-03 Yanx.......or the 70s; early 60s, or the 50s,(we will never see another MLB Team as adept as those Yanx in the 50s)........ Even IF they get that Wild Card in hand, its gonna' look embarrassing IMO...........I refuse to be a blind "Homer" and believe this Team, can even win but maybe 1 wild card game, but with 2 WC Teams, they will be lucky to beat Texas, IF TX gets the 2nd WC.......(how I'd love to be proved wrong, how I'd love to see a 28th ring, but won't this year)... The Pitching is often suspect, while hitting is anemic to often...... these guys need a check up, tune up, and fire Trashman, hell sale the Team to an Owner or Group, who will return Pinstripes to Glorious Dynasties........do something..........anything almost......!!!
Sorry '5545 but, While I'm certainly not overjoyed, I'm also not "pissed" - The Yanks AT THIS POINT are having a "good" season - imo. I'll be pissed if they don't win the division....and be really pissed when they don't eventually qualify for a post season series. If they were floundering around out of contention I would be near the front of the line bitching and complaining. 1.5 games out of 1st place with 27 games left - why the hell should the fans be "pissed"? Sure, of course they aren't a powerhouse team with a spectacular W-L record and I'm not betting the house on their chances but I'm sorry, according to my math at this point, the season is far from over. Toronto would've already put this race to sleep if they weren't below .500 on July 28! No doubt about it, we could look back at losing 5 games to Cleveland in 13 days during August as being the Yanks' biggest most serious stumble during the dog days if the Yanks lose the division by one or a couple of games. Yep, it's those Cleveland games. Last year there were TWO teams in the WS with less than 90 reg season wins. Get in...get hot, and roll - hopefully. I'll be pissed when they don't play a post season series..... ....oh yeah....really pissed.
Guess I'm not as sure as you are concerning the Yanks failure in taking care of business. Yanks have won a good share of games vs other "bad" teams and held their own vs some "good" teams. They made their choice to stand pat at the trade deadline and Cashman's ass should be on the line if the team comes up short. I wouldn't lose sleep if they dumped him but does anyone really know what Detroit wanted from the Yanks for Price? Same with Cueto. I surely would like them to be in first place with another 6-8 wins....and that would put them near the Cards' and KC's W-L records. Realistic? By the way- speaking of the Cards, how many people expected them to have the best ML record by 5 games and on pace to win well over 100 games on Labor Day while being 11th in their league in scoring and having the best team ERA of 2.73 after losing one of their top SP early in the season? Crazy... Or maybe a long lasting mirage soon to evaporate in the playoffs? I know they have an excellent org but this is unconscious.
My primary baseball concerns are for the Yankees and what they do. I respect other franchises and players alike but the Yankees are #1 with me. Entries made in my original post are fact, horseshit teams for the most part kicking the shit of the Yankees in their own park. Bullshit I say. Crock of shit seeing the Yankees continually lose season series against low rent teams like Oakland, Tampa and the like. I am also aware that under the current playoff system shit happens ie '04 Yankees, '01 Mariners but those seasons are done. I am also aware that results in the regular season may not apply in the playoffs but that does not change my opinion of the 2015 Yankees. The unit has some good players with a couple of glaring "how'd they make the team" individuals. Starting pitching has been flaky with Eovaldi showing a lucky horseshoe up his butt. Betances is number 1 pen guy, Miller a bit dangerous lately. Offense is either on or off and the General Manager failed to make adjustments. Bird and especially Sevey have been great but overall this team "cudda dun better" When this team takes the field one never knows, Prior to '13 one felt confident coming out of Spring, since it been one big if. Even that dork Harold Reynolds used to say the Yankees were great at solving what ifs. Not so much so these days. The fans want the team to win, but are aware of the Linda Ronstadt line "honey chile I got my doubts"
...^^^not winning the division and having to play a one game W/C playoff would put the Yanx or any other team for that matter, in a tough position.
In a nutshell, I have not agreed with the current playoff system, my feeling is that second place team should get a team what it deserves, nothing. But our old buddy Bud Lite got the game to where it is.
^^^Oh, I agree, big time. I don't like the current format at all. ...I'd rather see MLB add 1 more franchise to each league, and then rearrange the divisions so there would then be four 4 team divisions in each league. No W/C, no one game playoff, no 5 game series...all PS series would be best 7 game format.
I think Showalter had a plan first to contract the Florida Teams, eliminate the American/ .National League replaced by have four seven team divisions, called Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron Willie Mays can't remember the 4th. Can't remember what was done with the DH but each division played by same rules. The Divisions were then aligned in geographic order ie Mariners, A's, Giants, Dodgers, Angels, Padres and D-Backs were one division example. No more inter league, schedules compacted , less travel expense. End result great inter city rivals, and playoffs where the teams akin to 1969 would not see each other until the playoffs. Seemed like a great move, that is probably why it was killed.
I hear ya loud and clear. My primary concerns are also with the Yanks and I too respect other teams....like Toronto playing .800 ball since July 28.....and they needed just about EVERY ONE of those wins to keep the Yanks out of first place! Otherwise maybe we would be complaining about the Yankees' first place lead not being big enough? Severino and Bird are two of the higher regarded Yankee prospects, they weren't traded away, have been (apparently) "properly" coached and prepared, and are here and helping. Couple of other kids have been given chances due to injuries early on. I agree Drew and CC should've/could've been replaced long time ago. Yanks used to solve alot of problems by taking advantage of salary dumps by other teams in the good old days before the luxury tax began banging them over the head and other teams weren't fattening up on revenue sharing ect. Honestly, really - I appreciate the Yanks going with some "adjustments" from within. Looking at the big picture- imo - the organization's biggest weakness continues to be the inability to produce a top flight SP- preferably LH.
old news!!!!! as of 9/7/15 yanks are right there .... serevino betances miller arod tex ellsbury gardner didi headley eovaldi peneda tankaka & beltran a notorius PS showtime player.. we have the formula, the technician has to make it work
I'll say this Pasta- Yanks aren't chopped liver and are 1.5 games out with 26.5 games left as I speak. Might be a little while before I contemplate jumping off the ledge.
I'd have no prob with a 4 Division set up. It makes sense, especially for MLB Playoffs. This current fkd up format of a 1 game WC, is utterly preposterous, and Yep, could easily create another conundrum for the Yanx.....
