...ain't it funny how Long was the scapegoat for last year...and was also pointed to as the reason the Mets were hitting so poorly during the first 1/2?...but since they went out and got some actual talent and got some people healthy, they now lead all of MLB in runs scored in the second 1/2... my God man, that's incredible and they owe it all to the hitting coach...lol.

Yep, overpaid over too long a contract. Gamer? Hell yeah!
He plays hard with fire and can easily "cripple" himself every time he approaches the outfield wall. I hold my breath because he's fearless going after balls.

In the past he's been injured on a couple of quirky happenstances- not one of those guys who's always pulling muscles or something but this year (combined with the past) now leads me to believe he just may be one of those players who DOES fairly "often" find ways to get hurt.

But....when healthy, I still also think he's one of the better all around talented players in the league....as he goes into his mid 30s, it doesn't give you confidence that he'll play 145 or so games per year. Too bad.

Right now, one week at a time and if this guy IS healthy, he can be a difference maker.
Still a career .300 hitter (.285 2015) w/risp and, w 2 outs w/risp....those are BIG hits.
Also a career .300 post season hitter - 133 AB.
Hope he stays healthy, kinda special player.

 

Yanks were at or near the bottom in most team batting categories for 2013-2014, if ANYONE were to be a "scapegoat" It SHOULD have been Kevin Long.

A simple plain old case of "deciding to go another route" and have a change....with some hard stats for two straight seasons to boot.
I guess you can keep trying to re-invent the wheel.

I strongly doubt if any impartial jury would convict the Yankees of screwing Kevin Long.
And I'll to out on a limb without any spray charts and say the Yanks have already gotten more hits against the shift this year than all of last year.
Regardless - the overall numbers speak for themselves....this year, and the previous two.

I think "Batting Coach" also requires being a good salesman when it comes to some aspects and approaches to hitting - imho
