Well, maybe the main 'asset' was absorbing his contract.

Neil's core according to his podcast with Lowe:

    Lillard/McCollum/Aminu/Leonard/Plumlee

Haha...Well what I'm trying to say is, Not a lot of people wanted Andre Miller before he came to the Blazers either. And I believe they are for some similar reasons.

That's actually an interesting point. We have two combo guards as part of our core. Would adding a pure point guard to our core really be the worst idea? All three potential pairings could work together.

Could be an effective gamble, but the potential reward probably wouldn't be worth the cap risk.

The rumor must be for Bennett, not Rubio. Triano praised Bennett, Minny noticed, and offered him to us.

    Please no.

Cap space today is great. Using it to have a big cap hit for years into the future on a loser makes no sense.

Interesting, that the "Brain trust" doesn't want him at PG, where he literately has played the last three or so years..... Sure he can't get out of his own way in the trap defense, but that's more team coaching than anything.

I think what's interesting about this rumor is that the Blazers want Damian playing the 2 alongside a more traditional PG. I share the same thinking myself and I personally have a lot of faith in Frazier, based on his performance in SL, to be able to play this role.

Why would a rebuilding team, overflowing with young, cheap, high-upside players, want to bring in a player who is injury prone, can't hit the side of the barn from inside the damned barn, and is overpaid?

I like the idea of Rubio in the backcourt with Dame. It enables Dame to play the same role he always has, but instead of Nico running the offense we would have a far better ball handler and creator doing so, plus guys who can finish. Rubio at 6'5" is a decent defender too so we don't end up with a height issue in the backcourt.

If we really wanted someone like Rubio we would've just traded up to draft Delon Wright.

Dame is not a SG. He's a PG that can score with the best of them and who's ability to pass will be showcased more this year. That being said, it wouldn't be bad to get a 2 gaurd that can handle the ball and create for others. But those are hard to find.

Instead I want a tall (6'5ish) backup PG that can play 20min a game and bump Dame to the 2 for 8 to 10 of those minutes. Those guys can be found for a lot cheaper than Rubio and can still make the same impact.

But he wasn't injury prone, and he most certainly wasn't overpaid. He just didn't fit alongside Brandon Roy.
