...I will say that I don't blame Israel for being unhappy with Obama's nuclear "agreement" with Iran...it isn't worth the paper it's written on.
Obama's treatment of what is our only real allies in the region has been downright deplorable. Don't even get me started on the UK as being of any assistance. When push comes to shove they bail faster on us than first class passengers on the Titanic.
Speaking for myself I can say that my enlistment in 1963 was prompted by feling an obligation that the country should be served. My father was a WWII (Pearl Harbor) and Korea vet. I remember guys I knew telling me "you're gona go to Vi Nam, well shit I signed the contract. And in the 60's, 70's, and 80's I made them all. I base my Army experiences on what I encountered between 1963 through 1986. I do remember Euros complaining about US Actions in Viet Nam. They did not mind us being there to keep the Soviets off of there ass, and I got that glimpse first hand in Berlin and the Fulda Gap. I also remember the appreciation of the Korean people having had the privilige of servind with the ROK Army. And along the way I met one Brit counterpart who always said the English speaking Countries should ally and kick butt on the rest of the World. And on Veterans Day when I put my campaign medals and I've been there patches on I am one proud person that I stepped up and served this country.
Just for the record - and I am not saying he will or should be elected, but Trump is the only Prez candidate who has actually said he would (at least) attempt to stop Isis and TAKE THE OIL from their conquered territories and regions. And let's not act like all will be well if The U.S. minds it's business and behaves like a good little boy- Russia and China is always standing by waiting to pick up the pieces as these areas and countries fall one by one....remember the old Communist Domino Doctrine? What we now have is a real life domino effect complete with public beheadings, mass intentional slaughter of Christians, women and children being killed, captured and made to convert and become slaves and if you're counting on Europe to stand up and take a lead, I DON'T THINK SO, you can forget it, they're already in the process of being swallowed up and checkmated without a shot being fired. It began to rear it's ugly head with our embassy being taken in Iran and with a wet noodle for a President, Jimmy Carter who didn't immediately cut the snake's head off and allow the U.S and it's allies time to develop strategy going forward. One of the worst Presidents in history...took ALOT of time and money to undue some of the damage he did....on the home front also! It has now arrived as your classic fanatical religious war being conducted by maniacs who want to eventually checkmate or conquer The U.S. as the weenies in Europe hold their breath and wait for it to reach them as Iran with aid from Russia and China continues to be the big puppet master. Iran used to be one of the more progressive tolerant modern Nations from that area of the world. Biggest threat to the world and the U.S is this Islammo fascist movement being conducted, complete with modern weapons and safe haven nations. Nuclear weapons are definitely on their list. Don't blame US for rotten religious medieval fanatical scumbags who would NEVER cooperate in peace and harmony with the biggest most powerful modern liberal progressive Nation in the history of the world. Look at the map....it's spreading like a huge black stench of a cloud.
Or the French, Germans too.............pisses me off big time, being of French Canadien descent, at least Canada is involved, but IMO, a bit too little...... I too don't necessarily agree, Allied Forces impose Our way of life on other sociological groups, for one, I've yet to see an Arab Ice Hockey Team.......
My Hats Off to Ya' Michael, for the time you served, I can only imagine the stories, you can tell...... I think I asked this of you last year, weren't you in the Mid East as well, and perhaps the very Soldier, who on occasions, would join us on the BSPN boards.....? From afar, and distant shore......? Your also the very person, who opened my eyes, to the fact, our G.I.s are as important to other Nations, not just for Physical Armed Protection, but also for Electric Grids, Water Treatment plants, wells being dug and Operational. Building Schools, those assholes lacked, as well as all the other modern day amenities of life in the Free World.......... Freedom has never been free.......!!! Paid for with the blood of our Nations Armed Forces, Young Men and Women.......some of 'em.
...yeah, my Dad served in the tail end of WWII (Pacific)...Korea, and then Nam...32-33 years total. I recall how concerned he was during the "missiles of October" ....he told us all "this could be the end".
Yep, I remember JFK's term and Intl. Nuke event, as well as the "Bay of Pigs"............odd how JFK accomplished so little in 3 yrs of serving as Prez, yet is one of the higher ranked Presidents to serve...... We used to pass right across the bridge, where we could see Dealy Plaza, in the early 60s, while travelling from Shreveport to Wichita..... Still a kid then, and it wasn't but a few years later, were sitting in L.A. when RFK was shot at the Ambassador, (which was demolished a couple years ago, against public outcry, wanting the place to be rennovated into a modern era of construction, and earthquake codes. The Ambassador was once the L.A. hang out of the 'Rat Pack'........ IMO, the greatest Pres, this Nation would of ever seen was the one chance blown, Sirhan had to go and fk us all up.........
As Casey Stenglel said you could look it up. I served my first 10+ years in the US Army Security Agency, partnered with the US Air Force Security Service, and the Naval Security Group. Pretty elite company. Country Singer Johnny Cash was in the ARSS, Country Singer Don Williams the Army Security Agency. By the early Seventies the Security Groups were being phased out. My former MOS was down to one Euro Assignment of Sinop Turkey or Shemya Alaska. I found those assignments limited and was told the only thing I could do was reclassify so I did and went to the Quartermaster Corp. Agency Slots were filled so there I was a Regular Army Troop. Found it to be a good challenge though holding till retirement.
Wow, truly elite company indeed, ........ To this day I still enjoy the hell out of this tune, Don was a smooth Operator.......and Cash, Epic........!!!
That'll happen in few years when an Islamic hostile Nation, Iran- gets it's Nuclear Weapons- compliments of this recent "deal/steal" perpetrated by our leaders. John Kerry - made his original claim to fame ratting out GIs.
Holy shit, You weren't kidding: Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, K. Kristofferson, HW Jr., C. Rock, Timberlake, Crowe, Dennis Hopper, Keith Richards, Bono, Kid Rock, Red Hot Chili Peppers, ZZ Top, Johnny Depp..........
Cash was a ditty bopper, don't know the AFS for that but in the Agency it was MOS 05H (Hog). I heard him tell how he earned a Letter of Commendation for making the first Morse Code Intercept from a Soviet Bison Bomber. I was shocked to hear that come out of his mouth in '68. Air Force Security Personnel had to score in the upper one per cent of applicants to qualify. Not sure of qualification scores for Naval Security Group Personnel For us Army Security it was top 10 per cent.
Look, when civilized people are fighting savages....you back the civilized people. Israel is our ally and we should back them, period. They were founded on a lot of ex-pat Americans, and former European refugees. There is a book called ALLY...strongly suggest it be read if you want to understand Israel-US relationship. As far as the issues in the Middle East being OUR fault....sorry not drinking the self abuse koolaid. The purpose of our military is to break things, PERIOD. Totally agree there. Then we get out and if they get rowdy again, we remind them to behave with some selected bombings. A major crater a mile from Mecca as a warning.
