I think that last shot should not have counted, pause at 1:19, his hand is on the ball while the red light is on. But what can you expect from FIBA...
A well-known audience member for the Spain-Germany game on now: (Perhaps nobody told him Ibaka wasn't playing...)
Don't get greedy! Famous Gary Lineker (greatest English striker of the past 30 years - never mind that Rooney's scored more) quote: "Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.".
No love for Alan Shearer? Well you're talking to a long time Man City FANATIC here. Colin Bell is number 1 in MY BOOK.
Team of the group phase. Teodosic, Gallinari (my choice for MVP so far), Veseley and Pau, and... Adam Waczynski? Adam Waczynski:
If I had to pick a second team: Dennis Schroder, Nando De Colo, Bjelica, Saric and maybe Semih Erden. Gobert is a better player but France has been fairly underwhelming and doesn't deserve two players. I don't like De Colo but he has been their best scorer pretty much. (Tony Parker and Spanoulis have picked their spots - I have a feeling they're going to explode at some point. Best team so far is Serbia. Team with the brightest future is Croatia.)
Papanikolaou has been totally invisible for Greece. Overall they seem to be favoring the players who've played in Europe, with the exception of Calathes, but he played in Greece fairly recently. Even Giannis hasn't had big minutes. But I don't know what's up with K-Pap. He's turned into Greece's Claver.
Pau Gasol takes over a close game and kicks Poland's ass. (Looks like Rudy didn't play, so Claver actually got some minutes! But will not want to remember the turnover at 0:29 in this video)
Spain wins by a whisker! Looks like Claver played and did pretty well (8 boards) but it was mainly Gasol and secondarily Mirotic. Meanwhile K-Pap got ZERO minutes. Eesh - not the Summer he was hoping for with Denver deciding whether to pick up his option. I guess maybe playing the same position as Giannis hurt him? Because it used to be he was the better prospect than Printzesis, but the latter got WAY more of a role this Eurobasket.
So who is winning tomorrow between Spain and France? Gotta admit I couldn't even watch one game this year, but I might look for an online feed tomorrow for this one. Gobert-Gasol matchup should be great... This same French team beat a more stacked Spain last summer if I remember right, but Gasol seems like he is on a mission this year.
