I have never, ever, ever, ever, EVER seen a bomb with a power cord. Have you? I guess I forgot the part where the terrorist plugs his bomb into the wall.

    And that's just it.

    They didn't evacuate the school.

They didn't call the bomb squad.

Nobody actually thought this was a bomb. This is as stupid as a kid being suspended for making his hand in the shape of a gun. The school and the police are giving this kid a hard time because he's Muslim and because they thought the clock COULD be misidentified as a bomb. That's it. Then again, the kid who's being charged for assault because he kissed a girl is probably in deeper shit than this kid.

The range of the suicide clocker is only as far as his extension cord will reach!

Got it. Power cord present = can't ever be a bomb ever. No matter what

I believe the forgotten lesson in this sad episode is, the police are now doing their jobs while scared. The local police are now part of the war on terrorism, and they do not know how to handle it yet. Plus physical attacks and shootings of police officers by crazy citizens are increasing.

I have had two recent friendly casual encounters with local police officers that left me scratching my head. I felt the officers overracted defensively both times. So I tried to put myself into their shoes. The bottom line is, I would not want their job right now.

I am not defending what was done to Ahmed by the police. A mistake was made. I believe the problems we are now facing with adjusting to the war on terrorism are much bigger than many realize. Sadly, more mistakes are going to be made, that is part of being human working through changing times. I just hope we learn from them.

You're saying because of the stereotypical Hollywood bomb, he should have known better.. I'm just saying that I've never seen any bomb in any movie with a power cord :dunno:

    Got it.

Me = Sees what looks like a bomb as depicted on TV, errs on the side of caution and kind of freaks out.

You = Sees that it has a power cord, therefore rules it out as being a bomb. Continues on with your day.

If a kid brings a toy gun but has one of those orange tabs on it, do you think the school will call a SWAT team? No, although it looks like a gun, even if they determine its not a gun, they'll probably still suspend the kid because it appears to be a gun and that's good enough for them. I don't know exactly what the process is here, but

Cellphones that are DISGUISED as bombs are just that. DISGUISED. Meaning the terrorist made a concerted effort to hide what the bomb to avert detection. The aluminum cased suitcase bombs aren't like that, the case is a conveyance.

They aren't, I promise. You're exposure to it in the media has increased, but people assaulting or shooting police is not increasing, and 2015 will have one of the lowest rates of police deaths in the past two+ decades.

My assumption was wrong, but I am happy with the good news. Thank you for correcting my unintentional mistake.

People disrespecting or being willfully hostile to law enforcement maybe (probably) is going up, but the narrative that they are now violently under siege is a false one.

I just finished reading a fictional book that had terrorist bombs that where plugged into the electric wirings of buildings. The electricity maintained the batteries used to set the bombs off, and power the antenna receiving unit used to activate the bomb. That way a bomb could be hidden for many years in or near a building without detection, then set off remotely, even if the electricity was off.

I'm pretty sure the terrorist who tried to blow up Quahog in family was also named Ahmed.

Its not merely a digital clock, its an electronic apparatus that looks very similar looking to a bomb.

Bombs are not disguised as suitcases. They are just how they carry them around.
