The difference between my father and yours is my father sounds like Ricardo Montalban, people have made racist assumptions and comments about him based on his accent. It was just a few years ago that some fuck head demanded that he show proof to them that he isn't an illegal. Random dude, random conversation, suddenly hears an accent and assumes he's illegal. I also doubt anyone approached your mother when you were a kid and told her she was setting a bad example in front of me by dating a spick. So again yes, when I see the conversation switch from illegal immigration to all immigrants I'm going to say something.
Ok dog, I intended you no harm or anguish. I drop the illegal because I have been jumped about it several times. That and you might note, they do not distingish legal and illegal any longer in publishing state immigration data. So I don't know what the newbies in California are these days. Sorry to here your dad has such hard time. I will say you are lucky to have him around. Mine didn't have to suffer through any indignities like you mention, he's been gone since 1945.
No harm or anguish. Just speaking my mind. Unlike most of us my dad choose and worked hard to come here. I know he doesn't consider it a bad time. He loves this country, is proud to have served in the military and proud to be a citizen. I'm very lucky to have him around. Greatest man I have ever known. I'm sorry you lost your father at such a young age, I know he would be very proud of you.
