Denny, so you're on board with me getting federally subsidized healthcare, even though I look white, because I'm 1/8th native American? I literally have to do nothing, but reap the sweet sweet benefits.

 

I think scholastic achievement should have monetary gain incentive. I used to pay my son 10 bucks for an A on a report card, he liked money and became an A student with a scholarship..then went on to become an honor student in college. Now he gets bonus money working as a chiropractic assistant for doing good work. If we rewarded success in education, I could see startup grants for graduating high school with decent grades, graduating college with decent grades or trade school, etc..but have work rewarded, not given for dropping out of school for example. Small business loans or low cost housing loans for young people making the effort. In labor or manufacturing you could have housing at rates that reflect the hours you work instead of flat rates...more productive you are, cheaper your rent. Trade money for time and time for money

 

I always thought straight sales tax should pay for health care. If you have more expendable income and buy more shit..you pay into the healthcare system. Oregon has really dropped the ball on sales tax. First though, we need TORT reform!

 

Oregonian actually had a ln article today saying Oregon has the second most fair tax system of all 50 states. Washington, a sales tax state, was one of the least fair

 

It's really fair if you're a tourist or don't own property, then you just pay nothing here. From my understanding,unless you own land, smoke, drink gamble or buy gasoline...you get a free ride from sales tax.

 

That's assuming that 100% of blacks in America are bad off. So if 70% of ALL people who come into an unexpected windfall end up broke, you could potentially set back 70% of ALL black people in this country.

 

I disagree. I'm owed nothing. I look white. It has affected me in no ways. It would be a waste of taxpayer dollars for me to get free healthcare. Instead, I worked my ass off to get employer paid healthcare so Im not being a drain on the system that literally owes me personally, nothing.

 

I have that same value system and can relate to that..I've skirted veteran benefits as well because there are a lot more needy vets and it's a waiting list as it is

 

It did. Hence free healthcare. But I'll pass. It's called meaning more to me by working for it.

According to this site, the poverty rate for all blacks in the US is 28%. That means that 72% of blacks in America are NOT below the poverty line. But if the rate at which people will go broke is 70%, that means that you could potentially flip those numbers. We could be looking at 30% of blacks in the United States well off, and 70% below the poverty line. You don't see anything wrong with that?

 

In this country in 2015 there just should not be such a thing as a poverty line

 

Yup. And rushing into Iraq worked like a charm for those people, didn't it? How's the Middle East doing right now?

Sometimes just rushing in and throwing money at something doesn't fix anything. In fact, sometimes it makes it a million times worse. Or I guess you could just fly over cities like Detroit and just dump buckets of money out the window. That might fix things.
