Welcome to Stotts-Ball! He seems to be developing a pattern of attempting plug-n-play despite the vast differences in player skills. The first was Dirk > LMA. And now he's attempting it with Nic > Aminu and Blake > CJ. None of these players are all that similar to the ones they're replacing, but Stotts expects them to play the same role as their predecessor.
That is actually a really interesting observation. I'll have to pay some attention to that this season.
It's kinda' like letting rookies post on here during July and August. It's no big deal, nobody really cares or is paying attention...... but come October-May........it's go time for the real posters to bring it.
Montero has special talents. They are committed to seeing if he can be developed. Alexander was a TOP USA recruit out of HS and may be a diamond in the rough. Undersized, but good length/reach. FrAZIer and Pressey will battle it out for final spot on team. Don't need two 3rd string PG's.
Why is this not pure BS? why can't Frazier be Isiah Thomas? what was Isiah Thomas when the Kings signed him? Montero doesn't have a lot of potential, he has potential to be a rotation player maybe, Frazier is already much better than him. You say who cares about Summer league and I hear "I didn't watch summer league but I still feel like talking".
The same people who told me we shouldn't keep T-Rob then want to hang on to Alexander who's at best a poor-man's T-Rob. Or that we don't need two PGs behind Dame but we need Montero and the Baseball kid why? Neither is worth a spot on an NBA team
The only comparison between T-Rob and Alexander is their general build. I don't get how people can link the two without seeing Alexander play. He had less than half of an NCAA season. He is a complete unknown at this point. He has as much chance of becoming Amare as he does T-Rob. Personally, at almost no cost to the team, I would like to see which one he is before giving up on him.
I don't want to give up on Alexander either but Montero doesn't have "tons of potential" and he isn't a PG like some here are saying, Montero I did see play, he is an OK Shooting Guard as his ceiling. I also wouldn't mind holding on to him and waiving the baseball kid because he isn't going to be a star either, if he works hard, very hard, he some day becomes a backup 2 and that's higher than his ceiling. Frazier can be a vital piece for the team this year. I'm tired of people talking out of their asses mostly because I've already seen how these knowledgable opinions can have effect like T-Rob playing for Brooklyn right now
Pat had a guaranteed contract, iirc. Fraizer is an undersized poor shooting PG, and a non guaranteed contract (same with Pressey I think). There's a reason why Montero's contract was set at 3 years and not just a 1 year non guaranteed deal. All they have to do is waive 1 more guy anyway. And I doubt they're going to keep BOTH Pressey and Fraizer.
None of those project guys is going to be in the rotation this season much if at all. We don't need 2 tiny pt guards at the end of the bench.
False assumptions lead to false conclusions. You don't know enough about the 19-year-old Cliff Alexander to know what his ceiling is. We don't need two duplicate backup PG's, but Montero--with no NBA experience, but touted as an elite talent--has a different combination of size and playmaking ability that Pressey/Frazier don't offer. You keep him for the possibility of what he might develop into--a big PG who could give Dame the opportunity to play off the ball. Connaughton offers a combination of athleticism and outside shooting that is impossible to ignore. You keep him because he could be a perfect SG complement to Dame (and Wes replacement) if he pans out. To act as though 5 summer league games' worth of data is enough to write the book on those guys is completely ridiculous. Quite simply, the best case scenario in keeping both Frazier and Pressey is that both are capable of being backup PG's and are then redundant. The long-term best case scenario in keeping the other guys is much more significant. We are at a point in the rebuild process where we can afford to strike out while swinging for the fences. With Dame firmly set as the franchise player, guys like Pressey and Frazier can be no more than a bloop single at best.
It appears that a number of people have adequately answered your question. If you still don't understand, nothing anyone says is going to make you understand.
Montero has playmaking ability better than Frazier's? WT fucking fuck? he's not even a good decision maker for a SG. Because he's 19? Dame was 22 when he entered the league. Frazier was NBDL MVP. WTF?
Okay, so keep Frazier and cut Pressey. The point is that Montero is not the one you cut - it's one of the mini 3rd-stringer PGs.
Montero has some talent taking the ball to the rim, he could be an OK player maybe worth a roster spot but he isn't better than Frazier. I would give him Pat's roster spot if I have to but this is BS. What if next year some team's fans would say "but Frazier lost his roster spot to Pat Cauunighton", it could be true but it would only show how stupid that team is.
