Trob was an absolute beast in college, just bigger and stronger than anyone else on the court. He got to the league and his length (lack of) and non existent basketball instincts hurt him.
Isn't he only 19? They had to make a decision between him and Zeller. Leave it to Cho to make the wrong decision. Vonleh is going to be a beast.
Does anyone else think it's hilarious that the official NBA abbreviation for this incarnation of the Charlotte Hornets is CHO. Talk about a GM leaving his mark on a team. BNM
Not just a lack on instincts, in fact one some things he had great instincts (shot blocking, offensive rebounding), it is really a lack of skill (and poor decision making). BNM
They actually tried to trade Zeller first. Reports were that they couldn't find any takers. They felt like they needed to move someone so they moved on to Vonleh. Short term thinking.
Actually, word on the street is that they tried to deal Zeller, but no joy, so they finally dealt Vonleh to clear up the rotation.
Yeah for one season. Then Batum bolts to Toronto. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/238888/Nicolas-Batum-Interested-In-Playing-For-Raptors He's refuting it now but I think it's bullshit.
It's exactly (or close to) this kind of thinking that once netted us an all-star PF... He may have been a moody bitch, but he was as good as anyone in the league when he wanted to be.
I mean, Adam Morrison always kinda looked stupid, but I thought a Charlotte jersey was very fitting on him...
I thought that he played few minutes as a freshman and sophomore. Then when it was obvious he'd declare after his junior year, Self relented and started him, to give him good stats. He was a dumb college player. And Self is a poor fundamentals teacher.
I think in the case of TRob when he first got here I remember a journalist asking him what he thought his role was with coach Stotts he answered, I just do what I do and bring energy, not I'll do whatever the coach wants me to do. Don't think he liked homework but he improved while he was here. What I like about the new guys is the coachability vibe..team first mentality.
I don't understand why everybody thinks Vonleh is such a guaranteed star or what have you. Last time a team traded a lottery pick in a year or less it was Trob. Believe it or not teams know what their doing when they cut bait that soon. Obviously they must know something nobody else does. Yea yea yea you can say "well CHA is just stupid.." But so is Sac front office and they knew exactly what their doing when everybody called them stupid for dumping Trob so soon
