Sam Rosen confirms on MSG that Megna and Diaz are on waivers and that the Rangers roster is now at 23 players. The Rangers current roster of 23 players puts them at $150,500 under the salary cap. (Hockey’s Cap) Glass still around though: Glass was not placed on waivers. (NY Post)
At practice today the Rangers are using the following lines (NYR): Rick Nash, Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan, Kevin Hayes JT Miller, Oscar Lindberg, Viktor Stalberg Dominic Moore, Jarret Stoll, Jesper Fast Emerson Etem is skating as an extra forward. On defense the Rangers have Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi, Marc Staal and Dan Boyle, Keith Yandle and Kevin Klein with Dylan McIlrath as an extra. Alain Vigneault said on MSG that the lines used today are “close” to the lines the Rangers will start with on Wednesday against Chicago.
Hell yeah Dylan! Big, righty defenseman who was hampered by significant injures and written off by many (including on here/espn boards) finally makes the team as a 23 year old on his 'last shot'...remind you guys of anybody? (SAUER)
Good For Mci. I like that lineup, hopefully Etem can get his shit together and break into the lineup. I dont think they need both Stoll and Moore play every game. Keep them fresh.
Great news. I felt there was no chance big mac wasn't here and glad management rewarded his solid PS play nd obvious improvement. Now it will be interesting to see how many games he sits before AV rotates him in for boyle, klein and/or girardi. This kid is going to be here a long time. Not quite sure why glass still here. Hopefully trying to trade him for something
I'm stoked. Both guys deserve this opportunity. As long as AV is in charge, Glass becomes a fixture with wooden legs and cement hands. lol
We'll see on Glass, knowing AV he still might play. Also interesting that Hayes was bumped up and is playing wing, and Lindberg is the 3rd line C. I'm okay with that and like the look of those lines. Good depth in the bottom 6. Interesting how many loved Etem and said he could score 20, and now he is an extra. That dude needs to get his sh*t together...
Chuck, Etem not in lineup hopefully will give him the kick in the ass he needs. His indifferent play with a new team looking to see what he's got and give him the benefit of the doubt is baffling to say the least
I grown to like Moore a lot. However, I'm not sure he doesn't become trade bait. If Lindberg who is really good on draws takes the 3rd line center spot, Etem gets it together, Stalberg should really be on the 4th line. That leaves Moore the odd man out unless you are going to give him and Stoll a platoon deal. I wouldn't rule out getting a second for Moore. He would be a huge upgrade to a lot of teams 4th line center spot.
I loved the Etem trade. Hagelin was a 35 point forward without great defensive instincts who is now making a moronic 4 million a season. However, when I looked at Etem's twitter site I realized he was not dedicated to hockey as much as he should be. He needs to drop the stupid 96 number while he's at it. Take normal number, get his head out of his ass and win a job. Trade was a huge win anyway. They moved up to get Gropp, saved a ton of money.
Well deserved spot for McIlrath, he's earned it as did Lindberg. I think Dylan will play his way into the lineup on a regular basis. The only reason Glass is around is the enforcer role, he'll be in the lineup more than he probably deserves. Stoll was a great pickup, excellent upgrade on faceoffs. Getting Etem for Hags was a good deal, even if Emerson doesn't pan out they were going to let Hags walk. I like this roster more than last year's.
The Hags deal is fine even if Etem never plays a minute because we moved up in the draft. Plus, look at what Hags signed for. He was not going to get that from us (hopefully) and it also allows Lindberg to be up with us to start the year. As for Dylan, I'm hoping AV lets him do his thing and clear the crease and get into some fisticuffs when necessary to protect Hank. He's going to make mistakes, definitely, but hopefully they don't bench him or make him sit in the stands for someone like Boyle who just can't do anything right. I saw in another thread where trading Klein was mentioned and how dump gave all the reasons why you can't trade him (top 4, great contract, etc), but to me, those are reasons you CAN LOOK to trade him because odds are you'd get a GREAT return for him. I'm not saying you do trade him, but if there's a good enough offer for him and the other team is willing to take Glass with him, then they have to consider it. Especially if it's a top 6 SCORING forward. We will see though. All I know is I'm happy hockey is back!!!!!
Like Dave Maloney but he made one of the dumbest comments I've heard in years when he called Hagelin irreplaceable. Wake up Dave. He was replaced last year by Fast who was superior in every way during the playoffs. If you don't think Fast was his replacement, then turn to Lindberg who just has a lot more things he does well including win faceoffs, shoot and win battles in the corner. Hagelin was very effective vs. slow teams. Against quick teams like Tampa, he was useless.
To me McIlrath will get his chances for sure when we rest G/Klein/Boyle, and those guys WILL get games off, and I am happy about that. Much rather have Mac here as the 7th than Diaz. I said early in the summer the 7th dman role was perfect for Mac to start the season, and I'm happy he earned it. As for the team itself, I like the depth 100 times more than last season, and to me that is a big plus. I just hope we can get enough scoring from the top 6. I also believe we will take a step back in the regular season, I say 3rd in the Met, and I am 100% fine with that. No need to go all out in the regular season for 1st place or home ice, which doesn't mean much anyway. Rest some guys, win the games you need to win, get into the playoffs, and away we go. All about the playoffs this season IMO.
Stalberg is a big wildcard for them. If he can live up to his ability in a contract year that could be a huge boost.
