There aren't any Constitutionally allowed background checks in America.

    And there never will be.

If someone is attempting to coerce you into revealing personal information by withholding your right to bear arms it is they who are committing a crime, probably several.

Effectiveness is the least important consideration. The perception of effectiveness is all that matters, especially if it's a chance to rub conservatives noses in something. At least that's the way it seems to me.

As Denny pointed out, you like to ascribe false positions to people who disagree with you.

I believe that all legal citizens of America have the absolute right to bear arms, but more importantly, the founders of our country believed that, based on their personal experiences under British gun control, it was the only way to insure America would remain a free country.

And how do you determine who is a legal citizen without a background check?

Cut off everyone's trigger fingers. Cut out everyone's vocal cords so they can't yell "fire!" in a crowded theater, too.

Effectiveness is the most important consideration.

Poll taxes restricted black peoples' right to vote. Waiting period restricts women's right to abortion. All that's being proposed restricts a fundamental bill of rights right in a similar fashion.

You don't, if you're a retailer. You sell stuff that people want to buy, as long as it's legal.

It's none of your business, and certainly none of the government's business.

The very basis of our justice system is that we are all presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Background checks are a form of profiling. Guns are absolutely legal to sell in America. President Obama has sold more weapons in just 6 years than every licensed gun dealer in the history of America has sold. Far, far more. And he sells them to terrorists, drug cartels, our sworn enemies...

And he can't even produce a simple birth certificate, never mind pass a background check.

So if there are no background checks, anyone, not just your "legal citizens" can buy guns. That includes, criminals, illegals and terrorists.

Those guys pass the background checks anyway.

Or they buy a gun that someone stole and filed off the serial number before selling it.

So because criminals, illegals and terrorists might be able to buy a weapon illegally you want to make it easier for them to buy it legally?!? And this makes sense to you? You feel bad that they might miss out on a warranty and rebate?

So we want to make people do more to vote than to be able to buy a gun.

Again, and this makes sense to you?

Never mind, I already know the answer.

I don't want to make it harder for the hundreds of millions of legit gun owners/buyers (period). Especially if it doesn't stop the people you want to stop.

What about drivers? No more drivers licenses because illegals, criminals and terrorists can drive without one? If a drivers license doesn't stop people from illegally driving why have them? It just makes it hard for legal people to drive.

I just looked to be sure. There's nothing about drivers' licenses or cars in the Bill of Rights.

Driving is a privilege. Owning a gun is a right
