Who are players that play like crap and then for their contract year step it up to get an extension or more money..etc?
Mike James, but he doesn't really 'play like crap.' He really improved his game in his contract year, and his stats aren't the same. It has a lot to do with the change of scenery, going from Toronto to Minnesota.

He did not play very well in the regular season. A smart move by Seattle not to match the Knicks offer. Go Rick Sund!
Tim Thomas is number one in this category for most people. Deavon George as well. The best two years of his career came in pre contract seasons.
I know some people here on BBW know that I hate Tim Thomas for this reason, same with Mark Blount. I can't stand players like this. They only turn it on and show what they can really do in their contract year, they get their cash, then they slack off. Guys like that don't deserve to be in the NBA.This is just the reason why the NBA should NOT have guarenteed contracts.

Erik "Contract year" Dampier. His nickname tells it all. As a warriors fan I witnessed his lackluster non-contract years and his fiendish contract year

You can say his numbers aren't 12 and 12. But really he's not going to average 12 points on this squad. His rebounding numbers are great for the minutes he gets. Good post defense, he does his job on the court.

Yeah, I'm glad we have Caron now, not Larry Hughes. Is Rasheed having a contract year this year, because it seems as though he is having a great year. Tim Thomas of course, I kinda hope Blatche will get a bit more playing time, he could really turn out to become something. I didn't think so before last night, but 9 pts 8 rbds and 7 assists in like 18 min. of playing time inspired me. (this is blatches last year on his contract that is not completely random)
