...moving either Gardner, Ellsbury, or Beltran will take care of it...and though hes a switch hitter and a nice guy, Beltran is a liability in RF.

Yep, his last two injuries were doozies, both broken bones, one with a pitch(?), the other one swinging the bat. Kinda flukey to have two back to back injuries of that kind in such a short time. I think Tex proved alot bouncing back the way he did this year and it was nobody's fault the way he was injured this year.
One door leads to another - Bird got a chance to see serious playing time with pressure games.

I think lingering injuries did Ellsbury in this year. Because I would have been fine if he would have just matched last seasons numbers. Personally Its Gardner that needs to go.

He remained reasonably healthy in 2014 - crumpled this year....looks like he just might be one of those types who gets injured every other year or so and I think the Yanks are just going to have to live with him. Very good all around player when healthy and maybe the best we can hope for is him avoiding a long term nagging injury during a season and continue to play well when he returns from a stint on the DL.
I guess I can live with that.
Don't quite understand his weak hitting AFTER he returned from injury this season- he was moving well in CF, just stopped hitting. Kinda unusual.

trust me brother, bring in a coach who knows how to push players buttons, everyone of these guys will perform better, you can't have a soft coach, players need tough love, i have had many coaches, the 1's you hated won the most, girardi still thinks he one of the guys, he too concerned about what a player thinks of him.. and if a player goes against him he's vindictive, case & point, ellsbury !

I hear ya...sometimes a little "rah rah" intensity and a certain different kind of "approach" helps.....sometimes.
Gotta loosen things up on occasions, juggle the molecules, sometimes "businesslike" "as usual" ALL THE TIME can get STAGNANT.
I wouldn't mind if they replaced Girardi.
Don't tell me this past "lineup" doesn't have enough professional hitters who are capable of hitting a ground ball with a runner in motion.....and not enough "fast runners" who can be in motion on the pitch......if only to stay out of a DP and have a runner in scoring position (2b)....and of course a chance to have 1st and 3rd with less than two outs if the ball finds the vacated hole in the infield.

This is also a "technique" some MGRs use to try and help a batter who has been struggling for a while...put the hit-and-run play on...create an urgency for the batter to make contact. You can do it in choice situations when you're leading by a couple of runs......it's not the end of the world if it "fails"...and it just might help down the line for next time.

And with the exception (IMO) of Arod, Tex and McCann.....EVERY other batter should be asked to, and be able to lay a sac bunt down on occasion...doesn't have to be fancy, just try and lay it down.

He is NOT an "aggressive" mgr....and the opposing infielders sit in rocking chairs, nice and comfy and he is counter productive when it comes to having his SP grow a pair and tough it out for the extra out or two.....not to mention DEMANDING his pitchers to NOT be afraid to pitch inside the inside corner of the plate.
If they miss, make sure they miss a bit further in - instead of further out over the plate. And how often do we see Girardi take a walk to the mound to discuss things with his pitchers in tough situations?
The pitching coach seems to be in total control of EVERYTHING regarding the pitchers through a game which doesn't involve a pitching change....strange. Ever notice?
Take some control, look them in the eye and do some "MANAGING".
Even Torre went out there on occasion to discuss things with his pitchers.
Or shall I blame the GM for this? Nah, don't think so.
Girardi is a super team mgr, he needs a super team to win a WS, like the 2009 team.

Not Girardi's style, and I'm not crazy about it....actually finding it a bit annoying.

i have to laugh, the other day francesa took a call and defended girardi about him being a great bullpen manager, lol shakehead, the fan said he went to them too often.. betances & miller that is.

i don't know how francesa defends him, the fact that no pitcher went beyond 6 innings should tell you, he went to them too often.

You're right. We certainly didn't see Shreve and Mitchell blow up enough games. They should've been brought in more often.

I don't incessantly do anything of the sort. What I do know is every thread you post in incessantly gets thrown in the same direction regardless of the topic.

Mateo is a SS......there was mention of the Yanks thinking about possibly sending him to winter ball to play 2b. All reports say this kid has excellent skills. And he may possibly move quickly through the system...of course it'll probably depend on his hitting progress.
I think he stole over 80 bases at A-A+ this past season.
Didn't hear anything about the outfield....did you?

2016 - now I'm already a bit curious - as of now, we really have an issue with Tex and Arod. What ARE the Yanks going to do with Bird now here?
DH Bird and Arod? Maybe until/when Arod finally runs out of steam? Maybe.

    I think it's a fairly good "problem".
Chances are fair Arod and/or Tex will slow down due to age or injury.

Can they both approximate their 2015 production in 2016? Maybe, maybe not.
If not - Bird is the word.

it's always tough when you have highly paid vets and no other team wants them, you are forced to play them.

as far as bird goes, i think he's a keeper, he' s got a lot of olerud in him, but if the yanks have to use him to better the team they will imo.
