If the chance is there where the situation doesn't hurt him Harvey is drilling him.

when you look at replay tejada's foot was slightly short of bag at first and he knew it, he then when going to release ball at same time he felt for bag and side of foot hit bag, thats how you are able to get something on throw, as a former SS thats how we do it, you don't have to step on bag as long as there is contact, side of foot hit side of bag.

secondly, the rule we went by, utley must be able to have touched bag/ hand or leg over bag before you break up DP, in order to protect the mid fielder because they are vulnerable,, thats why they put this in effect to do exactly that, utley went right after tejada, hardnosed play my azz, that was me with broken leg or not i would have gone after utley and cracked his head open

my day it would have been an automatic DP , tying run would have never scored or any other for that matter, unless rules have been changed, which i don't believe, it has to be in place to protect the infielder.

The play gets looked at two ways. Dodger fans love it and Met fans are furious. Francesa is taking some angry calls this morning which is understandable. The biggest tragedy is a kid ends up with a broken leg. On retaliation it maybe should've happened last night as benches could be warned prior to tomorrow's game. Plus, when does Utley play again? Either way I put the chances of benches clearing at some point at 60%.

...yup, and again, this is why the rules or the way the rules are interpreted, need to be amended.

Also, I'd find a warning prior to the game complete nonsense.

10 out of 10 times that's ruled as a neighborhood play & he's out, granted his foot may have been inches off the bag but I've seen plays where a guy making the play was no where near the bag that was called out on the neighborhood play.

Neighborhood plays are NOT reviewable but the umpires in this case ruled that it was a force play & not a reviewable play therefor giving them the right to over turn it. What bugged me was Collins have every right to have the play reviewed after Mattingly did to show that Utley never touch the bag & he didn't challenge it. How the hell could a player be safe without ever touching the bag. BULLSHIT!

As far as Monday's game, the first time Utley gets up I'm drilling the son of a bitch in the ribs.

...I agree, and besides, the Umps already now it's eventually coming, no matter what.

...but therein lies the problem...there is no "neighborhood" rule...it's something the Umps started giving years ago, and by the letter of the rules, it's wrong.

...if they are going to give infielders the benefit of the doubt on plays like that, they may as well do away with appeals and instant replay. The replay sysytem was implemented in order to "get it right".

...Rick, as far as Utley getting drilled, i agree it's gonna happen sooner or later but I hope the Mets use common sense as to when they decide to do it. May be the very first pitch Utley sees or it could comes later in the game or the series.

Oh I agree Ron, I mean some of these so-called NEIGHBORHOOD plays are a complete joke.

I'd rather see it done early, preferably with 2 outs & nobody on. This way after Harvey does it BOTH benches get warned & the Dodgers can't retaliate.

and you did all you can to make it happen, congrats on that! clearly this board is not what it presents itself at being, there really isn't much difference in what happened over at the ESPN board.

i don't see the point of posting here when all that happens after every post i make, i am shadowed by the same few, baited into a discussion which is then perceived as an arguement only for me to be singled out as the loan "attacker", if you don't see this, i really feel sorry for you....

anyway, i have stayed too long, be well, and please do me a favor, i will not be viewing this thread again, so no need to respond to it, at least give it to me as my final request! i know it won't be easy for you! lol

... take care, be well, easy on the doves and hope the okra was a fine crop!
