This article was published in the NY Times on February 4th, 1998. It's a tell all of Cashman's own words, revealing he does not know talent when He see's it. ie, *** see below article, for specific paragraph and quote: When Cashman was asked yesterday about his strength as a talent evaluator, he quickly said: "It's not a strength as a talent. I'm an administrator. I'm a good listener. I would not pass myself off as an evaluator of talent." There we go, the truth revealed back in 98......
I remember that article...... and back then I never liked him. Still don't. Early he relied heavily on Gene Michael. After Michael, Yankee organization was never transparent. With George, it was run like the Gestapo.......and the belief was 'we can afford to make mistakes' because we got the money. Cashman was just George's pimp. He would always pimp up all trades......to make George happy and get fans pumped. For every penny that man got, he sure couldn't make up for all the washed up players that never lived up to their ballooned contracts.....and it's still continuing! And this is why he should be shown the door.
