...if this guy really wants some team to give him a fat contract this off season, he'd better show up with his "A" game tonight...teams won't pay big for a pitcher who wilts under post season pressure. ...conversely, it bares pointing out that Daniel Murphy will probably hit the jackpot with a new contract this off season, based mainly his anomalous performance over the past 2 weeks. Don't get me wrong, he's a good 2Bman but there's nothing in his past to suggest that he'll continue to be anything like he's been recently.
A 30 year old left handed bat & one of the toughest in the league to strike out who plays 3 infield positions will get IMO $12-$15M over 5 years from somebody. I want to see one of the kids (Refsnyder) get a chance BUT.............with the short RF porch I think you'd get at the very least 15-20 HRs 75-80 RBI with a 280 BA. If anyone is curious.....http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/murphda08.shtml
That is a bingo on Price, and ditto on Cueto, I feel that if Toronto wins tonight the Royals shit may be in the wind, Cueto has not been lights out since his acquisition. As far as Murphy goes anywhere but the Yankees is fine with me, Cashman would give him another ridiculous contract. Nope Yankees need to be looking at twenty somethings and I' believe Refsnyder could fill that bill.
...but that's the point, if he gets $15 a year from someone, (and he probably will) it will be solely because of what he's done "in the last 2 weeks", which again, is very "anomalous" . Plain and simple, he's on the hottest streak of his career. Career averages; .288 .331 .424 .755 Last 2 weeks.....; .421 .436 1.026 1.462 ...There were at least 7 other 2Bmen who had better numbers this year than Murphy had, and with the exception of Cano (dumbassed contract) none of them make anywhere near $15 Mil a year. ...I'm not saying Murphy is not a good player and I'm not saying he won't get overpaid, because he probably will....what I am saying is that teams will probably over-react and over-pay him based on the last 2 weeks as opposed to the player he will likely be moving forward.
As long as its not the Yanks, he can get $18-20M/yr for 6 yrs. And if he and his agent can sell his hot streak to that tune....God bless 'em.
...^^^ Yep, Price has got to Pitch the game of His life, which will in fact have alot of bearing on His FA Offers, IMO.....at least that's how I also see it... While Murphy will become the next David Freese.....!
Murphy has always been a good hitter, good offensive player..... I believe kinda underrated as a player. Last five years- avg .291, .36 doubles, 10 HRs, 11 SB, .752 OPS Can handle 3b,1b,2b. Career .313 hitter w/risp, .837 OPS. With runners on base .297, .782 OPS. He does get tweaked here and there with minor injuries and he isn't a kid anymore. Three or four good years left as an everyday player? He'll probably always be able to hit into his late 30s as a possible DH/part time player.
...whatever contract Murphy gets from whatever team, he will be greatly overpaid/overextended. ...there are a few 2Bmen I'd take over Murphy.
