Wall was on Fox News Sunday, says his goals are to be on the all Defensive team, All Star team, and most impressive, want to lead the NBA in assists! Sigh! Very nice goals. Right on track too, just a percentage point behind Christ Paul in assists per game. But man look at the man's A/M! (assist /miss ratio (metadata)). A/M = 2.125 , with the team he has that is amazing. Put a team around a guy like this with his skills and mind set, anything could be possible. Real hard to guard a guy like that, put a double on him and pay the price, he will pick you apart.
Before you start getting too excited and comparing him to Dame, Wall had a rather pedestrian start to his career and he has been in the league two years longer than Dame. If you go look at his numbers, he was rather mediocre compared to Dame in their first three seasons.
Listening to wall, it seems he developed this mind set on his own. A good coach could help a man with the right skill set to get there so it is hard to say weather it is the coach or the man. But what ever, I think he is on the right track.
You compare him to Damian, not me. I see no comparison to taught. The skill set is there, but it ends there.
They're really the same person but they split early in life when John Wall expunged the evil from his body... It manifested and became Russell Westbrook
I'm weird. I want my players to want to win. If Dame leading the league in turnovers produced wins somehow I'd be for it. All star teams and leading stat categories don't mean anything to me, especially if your mind is on assists so much that you skip open shots or change how you play just to do better in a category we value.
Yeah Kidd was into that game. Payton was into the defender role, but not quite there on the offensive end. Not really a setup man in mind set. His .9 A/M shows he was more prone to take the shot rather than work to get the other guys a shot they could make. Payton's numbers on offense are just a little better as a setup man than average for a SG.
I do like to refrain from posting things we all know. That's why I never mention your problems. Like.....nah, too easy.
I believe he has been coached (is coached) by Rod Strickland. So no surprise, to see him acquiring some of Rods better traits.
My personal goal is to win 'bout 10 NBA championships, 10 MVP's (it'll take a few year to get acclimated to the league), and like 7-9 most improved player awards. How awesome am I? So awesome I am!
NBA is changing, man. Considering the lack of talent (relatively) on the wing and down low, PGs are being built to score more. Wall has some great passing skills so he wants to lead the league in assists. Dame is more of a scorer and is one of our best options to put points on the board, so he focuses more on that. Yes he does force a few jumpers, but he doesn't deserve too much criticism for sticking to his strengths.
Actually this was more about Wall, but since you bring up our PG, here is where he is compared to the others in the league. You notice, he is more comparable to Blake Griffin than Wall. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/assists/sort/avgAssists/year/2015/seasontype/2
