How safe are we, in terms of being at war with other nations, and that war having a bigger affect on the economy? There are many other countries that dislike America, and many are developing nuclear programs. Countries like North Korea are completely isolated from the world, and are building huge militaries. I know the United States has the largest overall military in the world, the highest defense spending, and since we have branches like the Marines and Air Force, we outway other countries in those parts. But in a worldwide perspective, we aren't necessarily that safe. Right now we are completely vulnerable, close to 80% of our entire force is half way around the world. Do you guys see countries like North Korea as threats now?
We are pretty safe but other countries are really starting to hate us. If our country doesn't stop acting all high and mighty some other country will step up and there will be a pretty bad war. I'm really scared of the Asian Invasion. Just go to the library and you see all their spies.

Very little is changing country wise around the world, the world is very stable right now, more so than at any time in human civilization. We now have the world economy which makes world war very unlikely. Business rules the world, China and the USA will not go to war in our lifetime, we are too interconnected even though we disagree on government style...etc...North Korea is just media hype. That country can't do anything to us right now, the country has no resources, we can easily take out their weapons/government if things get bad.
North Korea may be all hype, but they could do some damage to us. We'd be talking many more casualties then we would even fathom in Iraq. We'd have to invade from the south. NK is completely bunker'd up in the DMZ.. We can't bomb the DMZ without Friendly Fire casulaties.

Iraq and Afghanistan are breeding grounds for terrorists, the problem's not going away.

There is no way North Korea could sneak shoot a nuclear weapon onto American soil, we have that country on 24/7 100% watch and since they are years away from being able to hit us, I don't see why we would be worried. Nuclear weapons are now for show and for protection, it will be Kim Jong Il's legacy, believe me, he has no intentions of hitting the United States because he can't and he's too obsessed with his families legacy to have his government canned by us.
If NK develops a missile like the Taepodong II like they have now, and launch about 10 of those, they have a good chance of hitting the US. and the us doesn't have a huge missile defense system going. NK Doesn't need protection, they are fine. There economy outside of military is non-existant and they are completely seperate from the world.

Way too much to lose for very little result. Don't tell the media that, they make it sound like the freaking end is coming and it's like...give me a break.
The economies of the world are so tied together today that a major war between the world powers wont happen. North Korea most likely wouldn't attack the US, because if it was an unprovoked attack against the US it wouldn't get support from China. China is fully aware that if they are going to become a world power they will need the United States as an ally. without trade with the US their economy would crash. the biggest threat to the US is terrorist organizations, and not just the mideast radicals. IMO the biggest threat to the US are the home grown eco-terrorist. because unlike most other terrorist these idiots can hid amongst us and they blend perfictly. Which allows them to strike targets which other terrorist couldn't. These groups also don't plan as well as the Islamist radicals, which is even more dangerous because they they could very likely attack something like the Glen Canyon damn, blow that up think they are saving the enviroment, but in turn they'd distory the Grand Canyon, Hoover Damn, Las Vegas, a huge number of farms, and deprive the peoples of the Great Basin, and Northern Mexico of their water.
I've said all along that 2012 (power outages) to 2014 (peak of oil industry) will likely be the peak of civilization if we don't get some politicians who are willing to make a difference
BCB is pretty much right. I'm not really afraid of a country that is currently developing WWII technology. Meh, I think that can be dealt with.
Good points Redneck, and glad you agree with me Justice. All the media hype with North Korea and Iran, give me a break. This country has never been more safe in my opinion.
USA is the safest it's been since the fall of the Soviet Union. The Cold War, now that was scary, when I was in elementary school we used to have Air-Raid Drills and had to watch Public Service Films about being attacked by nukes from Russia. That's the kind of sh*t that sticks to an impressionable 9 year old.
as soon as troops in Iraq are withdrawn, the world is a safer place. while the troops are over there, its game time.
