I have no idea what started the disruption nor why. When asked to leave she should have done so. I have no problem with ejecting her from the class. Now might be the time to help her if she is disturbed. I always hated a class where some asshole became the center of attention and the class stalled right there. Sitting in class was not always thrilling but necessary, I don't think it is unreasonable to assume kids do not want to be wasting their time while a the side show goes on.

You act as though the other students would learn nothing from seeing a situation resolved in a non-violent manner.

Let's say the class stalled for 10 minutes while the teacher took the time to hear the student's point of view and to present his/her own in a calm manner. Let's say the class stalled for 10 whole minutes while the proper authorities took the time to ensure that the student understood the problem, was provided reasonable options, and was explained the potential consequences of her actions.

I guarantee you that the class would learn more valuable lessons regarding respectful leadership, boundary setting, and conflict resolution from something of that nature than they would from 20 minutes of talking about the battle of Antietam.

I respectfully disagree. Wrong subject in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Education is all about development for the purpose of integrating productively into society. I would suggest that it is never the wrong time to demonstrate how to effectively interact with the world around you. There is no reason that learning need be so regimented.

On the surface it's a fair idea. But then when does shaming become bullying? Too, if the kid is willing to strike an adult, what's to stop them from physically attacking the shamer(s)? Then the school is liable for not stepping in. it's a no win situation.

If this was some little white kid you would be clamoring for the officers dismissal. There is never a time when a child should be handled this way. Some of you are full of fucking privilege and it sickens me.

I'm offended by that comment. I hate all children regardless of race sex or creed.

Bullshit. Race is irrelevant in this. As is her age. If she had just left one of the several times she was asked before the policeman was brought in, there wouldn't have been any necessity for the situation to escalate. It's not as if the cop just decided to throw her on the ground. He began to physically remove her from the classroom as he is legally required to do, and she resisted by stiffening her body locking her legs on the desk. The cop then removed her from the desk, and in doing so, she was thrown to the ground, UNINJURED. There was no malice, intent to harm, and no police brutality.

Nicely done sir. Even if only one person learns from your effort, it will be a worthy service.

I come from a family of educators and a lot of my friends are teachers. A number of them are changing careers and going back to school again. A teacher I know is getting his real estate license and just saying f-ck it. It was a difficult enough job 20 years ago with teachers working crazy hours, juggling insane class sizes and bearucratic principals constantly hazed them to retire early. But now teaching higher education is some kind of Terry Gilliam nightmare. The constant ill treatment and accusations from the parents is so bad that a lot of teachers secretly record P/T conferences for legal reasons. And we are stripping away PERS, which is the whole reason college students are attracted to the fucking career path in the first place! Jizz moppers get more respect than public school teachers.... In 10 years, primary schools will all be chartered, there will be a 100% lunch assistance program, half of class will be for standardized testing and "Eating an Organic Apple" will be an AP course. I am just glad my grandfather isn't alive to see this.
