Notice the first two sentences of my original post. That said, unfortunately, I can't really enjoy watching other teams saunter to the hoop unobstructed. Maybe it's me.
The bad defense of McCollum and Lillard really only exists on PnR's... And I blame that on Stotts scheme.
At the moment our guard defense is shit. Perhaps if I live in the moment in 2050 when we win our second championship? Can somebody arrange that?
Fair point. Besides - what is the alternative? A 3 legged backcourt of Dame and Henderson isn't really a solution.
Sorry CJ, I guess being an inch shorter than the positional average is a big knock on you and you should really stop being such a volume shooter even though you're averaging 23ppg on 46% FG and 41% 3P.. We can't wait to get you out of the starting lineup when Hendo returns because those are the numbers of a 6th man at best. But through all that, we also expect you to love us as fans because if you don't then we'll hate on you even more. Funny how that works, isn't it?
Though I think the two are smart enough to figure it out and make it work ( Dame and CJ), I think CJ is better suited coming off the bench. He will bring much needed scoring. If Hendo is a better than average Defender and an average shooter, then I'm all for giving Hendo a shot at the start and bring CJ off the bench. CJ then can replace Dame sooner in the first, giving him a bit more rest. Plus right now, our bench is solid defensively. Probably one of the better defending benches in the league, but we have no sure scorer. CJ could get 6th man of the year AND MIP. Its his for the tasking and it will probably help the team.
This undersized CJ argument is absurd in these last two losses. How did we fair against Phoenix the last two years with Wes? It is all about explosive quickness. What good is a couple extra inches when the defender is two feet from you. who guarded Steph last night when he went for 53?
Well we did win 3-1 last year. So, explosive quickness: another thing CJ doesn't have. Aren't you supposed to be arguing for him? Probably the same guy who let CJ get 37 and got us all giddy before reality set in.
Just to reiterate: I love watching CJ play. He has offensive tricks I haven't seen in a Blazer since Brandon Roy. But a team with a backcourt of CJ and Lillard isn't going to be a contender. One of them has to go and you know it isn't going to be Lillard. Of course, if we accept that we're not going to be a contender for the next decade (which is likely), then all aboard the CJ train!
He's a bench guy. He's a spark plug off the bench. That's who he should be. It's what he's best suited for. That's why I think we'll start Henderson when he comes back.
As much as I enjoy CJ playing, I agree he should be a reserve. But a reserve in the sense that he still plays 30 or so minutes a night.
CJ has to go for us to contend in the future? So getting rid of a fringe all star in the future well make us better?
