Who do you guys think are some of the worst rebounding Centers and Power Forwards today in the NBA?The first guy that comes to my mind is Mark Blount. He's a pretty good shooter, his range goes out to 18 feet, but that, IMO doesn't make up enough for his lack of rebounding, like say, Okur's range makes up for his lack of rebounding. Just 6.2 RPG this year for the guy, and 4.2 for his career. He's so skinny and his instincts are pretty bad. He also lacks an explosive jump and necessary strength to fight for rebounds with other centers.
I think that for how tall Zadrunas is, he is a pretty damn bad rebounder. I dont know how many he gets a game, but at that height, I dont know how he doesn't average more. And another is Yao Ming. He is by far the tallest guy in the league, and he doesn't average THAT many rebounds. For how dominant he is when he tries to score the basketball, you think he would be just as dominant as a rebounder.
Well, it seems Stro isnt a good rebounder, but when he gets minutes he can get 8+ rebounds, unfortunely, he usually doesn't produce big so he doesn't get PT much, and that results in low rebounds. But for example, he played well tonight, got minutes and picked up 14 rebounds.
Stromile Swift, Etan Thomas (Yes, I admit it), and Boris Diaw (At 6-8 playing 32+ minutes a game he only rakcs up 5.)
Eddy Curry, Channing Frye, and Andrea Bargnani are some others. Andrea's rebounding will get better - and it has already, but it is not at a very good level right now..
Raef LaFrentz, Mark Blount, Peja Stojakovic is 6'10 I think.ballerman, you can't list yao when he's still pulling down 9.4 boards a night. you can't ask for much better than that.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas couldn't rebound at all in the playoffs last season; and that ultimately costed the Cavs the series against the Pistons. Of course that rebounding problem they had was Gooden not getting it done neither. Detroit got lucky in that Game 6, where they kept missing shot after shot.

More athletic guys who can jump alot higher have just as good an advantage as Yao has.
He hasn't been mentioned, Brad Miller I think is not that great of a rebounder as his numbers say. Look at his minutes and look at the amount of rebounds he grabs. Watching him the past 2-3 years with the Kings, he gives up a lot of offensive boards and only snags boards because of his height.
I know I diss him so much but I'll pick Steven Hunter. For his career he's averaging 3 rebounds per game and if he was playing starters minutes he'd be lucky to get 8. He's 7 foot, lean and pretty athletic, but the man just can not hang on to the ball. He's a big time butter fingers and just doesn't have the skills or knowledge to get position for rebounds.
A couple things about players listed thus far:- I agree that Mark Blount is up near the top of the list, but not for the reasons yankshater mentioned. Yanks said that it was because of lack of strength, being skinny, and lack of explosive jump. I disagree, he has always been a very well conditioned center, and he can outrun most NBA centers. He is not a weakling either. The only thing keeping Blount from averaging 15 and 10 is lack of heart and lack of love for the game.- Big Z, for the past few years, has been one of the best offensive rebounders in the league. Maybe not this season, but let's face it - he's aging.- Marvin Williams should not be considered a "big man." Just because someone is 6'8'' or 6'9'' doesn't mean they are a big man. Marvin is a combo forward, and probably best suited at SF at this stage of his career.- Etan Thomas is not a bad rebounding center. Inconsistant, sure, but not one of the worst.- Boris Diaw is an undersized combo forward. He also has Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire (who is an overrated rebounder himself), and Kurt Thomas alongside him.- Peja may be 6'10'', but he's a perimeter player, not a big man. He should not be listed here, he's a SF/SG. His role is to catch that ball 20-25 feet from the basket and let it fly, not get in there for rebounds.Other's I'd add to the list, that have not been mentioned:- BRIAN SCALABRINE! I can't believe yanks or dogma didn't say Scal lol.- Pat Garrity- Loren Woods (if he's even on a team anymore, which I don't think he is).
A couple of players that should be rebounding better includes Amare Stoudemire, Peja Stojakovic, Brad Miller, and Webber.

He doesn't play like a big man, that's for sure.I can understand why Diaw and Yao have been mentioned, but I think there's pretty obvious reasons for those. It seems obvious to me, anyway.

But believe me, if I wouldn't have been able to think of anybody, I would have put Scal.

Come on now.
Amare was pretty bad before for how athletic he was but he's learned plenty from Kurt Thomas and Iavaroni and he has been rebounding close to 10 per game since becoming a starter. He has had a few terrible rebounding games so far but overall has been pretty good.

There is no excuse for somebody that is coordinated, 7 foot 6, very wide and strong, to get under 10 rebounds a game. He may not be a "bad" rebounder, but for how tall he is, it is ridiculous that he isnt getting over 10 a game. There have been past players in the league that have been his height, but if you can tell me one that is as good as a basketball player as he is, I will stop my arguement.

When they just put their hands up, Yao is much taller, and has an advantage, but rebounding wise, Yao is not very athletic, quick, and he can not jump high at all, so other big men have as good a chance as he does of getting the ball.Sure. Ralph Sampson was close to Yao's height. He was 7"4 and averaged 22 and 10 in 1985 playing alongside "The Dream". I don't know what that has to do with anything though.
