I was privileged to be on the Honor Guard that stood Reagans Inauguration in '81. Got a pretty nice certificate for that duty. Reagan was one cool dude, took no shit from no one came up with some pretty good one liners as well.

Harry Truman had balls.....also served in ww1.
Funny antedote about Reagan....when he was gov of Cal, he was walking into some building and there were hippie protesters holding up signs reading "make love not war"..... he turned to one of his aids and said:
"looks like they can do neither"

How many marines were killed by the suicide truck bomber in Beirut?

The attacker drove by smiling at the sentries..

Ironic- the two earliest most SERIOUS "modern" incidents indicating what "we" are up against occurred under two presidents from different political partys-
    - one was an obvious liberal, one was an obvious conservative.
Jimmy Carter (Iran hostage crisis), and Ronald Reagan (bombing of Marine barracks).

I doubt I could stay employed in Aerospace, if not for Reagan. He re-energized D.O.D., and revived the B1-B, that Carter had cancelled OVER NIGHT. I knew thousands of good men and women, told to pack up their tool boxes, desks, on a Thursday Afternoon, and get One's Pink Layoff Slip effective the next morning. Long prior to employment laws being changed, to provide a 60-90 day notice, to these large Companies.

As much if not for Reagan, we would of never had the B2, and I'd be UN-employed, or probably designing tinker toys, Legos, or doing CAD/CAM for Disneyland rides......(seriously, Northrop Engineer's designed 90% of the Disney California Adventure right next to Disneyland, in OJ-County.......

Hell, I'd more likely be throwing Peanuts at the Big A.....

Not to mention that during the Gulf War American Military Equipment proved to be superior. I was stationed at Fort Myer when Regan got elected and when he officially took over the Logistics Chain got moving in a hurry.

    ....^^^^

Logistics, the name of the game.....

Like You said, better equipment, better toys, better guns, better fighting forces, armed to the hilts, with the newest proven Technology.

Our Navy's Ship, AC Carrier's and Subs, Reagan Class named, due to a fulfillment of His dream, to have the most powerful forces on the Globe. Now, Newport News is a Ghost Town. No new work in the foreseeable future????? an Abomination*** to this great Nation, ran by a fkng retard= (***Obama-nation)......

Yep, and a big chunk of these are being built but 2 miles south of my House. I love sitting on the balcony, over seeing Plant 42's toys flying in and out.

That being said: Tho' the real secretive TSAR- birds; one rarely if ever see's flying, even in the cloak of a dark moonless night. Those flights are usually reserved for Groom Lake or White Sands. In 03, 1 yr after retiring, I was lucky to see the last thing I worked on. It was the RQ-180 flying over my place around 3 am, one summer night, twice. Back then, I lived just a few miles from the South EAFB entrance, where the TSAR Hangar's reside, and where Black Hole OPS, are housed, with its own runway.......
yet its nice to be back close to the place I called home for 25 of 30 yrs working.

People are quite welcome to their opinions, it's part of living in a free society. I will admit to meeting many people who never put their asses on line yet know more about the Armed Forces than those who actually served.

...it's kinda like those people who've never actually had any children of their own, but like to tell you exactly how they will raise their imaginary children.

Carter was an Annapolis Grad, served in the Submarine Service so his intelligence and loyalty to his country is beyond reproach. The man was a liberal at a time we needed a prick as POTUS. this does not mean that I considered Reagan a prick, but more focused on what was going on. A while back I posted that Carter has manned up to his health issues at age 90 plus and is a damn good human being and will stand on that one. I certainly could not mention Jimmy Carter in the same breath as the Current Occupant of the White House.

Carter is often blamed with a hard rap, that he doesn't and did not deserve IMO. Sure, the attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran was a fiasco, enough to throw a wrench in any Prez's wheel. The rescue attempt was mired and doomed before they ever got off the ground; screwed up Logistics with a Reconassaince/Surveillance mess.

I have plenty of Great Plains Farmer Family members. The Farmer one will find, thanks Jimmy for his bail outs, to not grow specific grains, due to an over abundance. Someone had to do it, and he gets a bum rap.

In 76, I spent a couple months in Atlanta working. All I heard about prior to the elections, were local Atlantian's bad mouthing Jimmy, due to his over building, and appropriating Millions of $$$ to build a shit load of (well more than a few) high rise bldgs for commerce, which sat 80-90% empty for a couple of years. Jimmy got a bum rap for that, BUT, little did anyone other than Jimmy know; within 10 yrs, Atlanta would be hosting the Olympics, and by then, all those bldgs were occupied, no vacancy.
