I will never root for my team to lose. I don't mean any offense but I think it's just a way of coping for weak minded fans. I'm always going to want the Blazers to win every game, and of course I'll get a little upset when we lose, but I'm already over it. On to the next one.
I think that's the nuance. I'm not angry when they lose (I'm also not happy) because this season is just practice for us. Learning experience. We're going to lose a lot of games this year, it looks like.
Neil is shrewd. He brought in many new players with similar skill-sets -- none can create their own offense. Sucking is part of the plan.
"Weak minded" fans is very judgmental of you. We all have our own way of following and supporting the Blazers. Everyone posting on this board is a Blazer fanatic. Were not going to win a title this year, were not gonna be competing for one, so we can all root for the team in whatever way we want. Some fans want to root for wins now, some fans want to root for the players on the roster, some fans want to root for the draft, and some fans just want to root for a ping pong ball. If your sticking with the team in a crap year like this you can be proud of your dedication. There's no right or wrong way to be a fan. If you want to root for every win no matter the cost or who plays or what our future is building for do it! Don't let any tanking fanatic tell you its wrong. There's nothing wrong with rooting for the Blazers to win every game. But if you want to root for draft picks it doesn't mean your a bad fan or don't care. We've lost 7 games in a row and within the hour had to watch a mess of a team that fires their coach come back from down 17 and beat us. So hey if some want to find a silver lining and the smallest sliver of something to be positive about they should be able to do it. Nobody needs to hear flack from other fans who think they follow the one "right" way to support their team. That goes for both the pro and anti tanking crowd.
You can bet on it, then Kobe will return and drop fifty on us whilst Ed Davis scores five points against his old team in a 1 point loss to the Lakers ( Kobe of course will have to immediately retire because having a game like that at his age will about kill him)
This team is hurtling towards the dying star known as Xibalba to the Mayans, and has to pass through the underworld (lottery) in order to be reborn again. Anybody ever seen 'The Fountain'? Fandom is a lot like the central character in that excellent Aronofsky flick.
I can see VG's point of view. Second he never called anyone weak minded, he said he THINKS its a way to cope for the weak minded. There isa difference. Just sayin. I would never root for them to lose either, and its frustrating as a fan to see other fans want us to lose. With that said, I do agree that all fans have the right to root for whatever they want. But I can also have my view, like VG, that those that want us to tank, don't seem to be as big of a fan as I. Not saying anyone is or isnt, but the feeling is there, so it is. I think VG feels the same. With that said... GO BLAZERS ANY WAY YOU WANT THEM!!!
I don't root for them to lose, but if they do lose I'm not bummed like I normally would be. I just figure it brings us one step closer to Ben Simmons.
