... he turned down 6 years/$120 Mil from the D-Backs...considering his up and down 2015 season I think that offer was more than fair.
Meanwhile Trashman is doing nothing. He should've traded Severino and Bird or Mateo or Judge for Cueto at the deadline, and THEN signed Cueto for more than 120 million.
CBS Sports reports that Johnny Cueto has received interest from the Dodgers, Giants, Red Sox, and Cubs as per John Heyman.
I hope Zimmerman's signing parts the seas of Agent/Player greed. I don't see Cueto being worth a cent more than Zim. With exception of maybe Price or Greinke, I hope this years crop of SP's on the FA or Trade block, stick near 20$ Mil per year for #1 Rotation Pitchers, or #2 if you got a Kershaw, Madbum, King Felix, Lester/Arrieta as #1, and a few others.....
...Matts, that's why I was a bit surprised he turned down that much money...with Greinke and Price both on the FA market I would think it would drive Cueto's value down a bit...I mean, for a few Million more, I'd rather have Price or Greinke over Cueto.
I can see the Red Sox making a lot of moves this Winter. From what I heard rumor has it that Boston is willing to out bid by 40 million for Price, Maybe it's true.... Maybe not.
And lets hope whoever they end up signing that they have as much success as they did with last seasons signings.
When you have lots of teams in the mix for your services I can understand not jumping at an offer from Arizona.
I can understand Pitcher's saying NO to: not just sub=par unproven Teams, like AZ., even if they threw a larger $$$ amount offer; not sure to what dollar degree. I don't see La Russa and Stewart building a contender, nothing at all like the Ryan, Son=Father combo, juggling several years of 1st round, picks.......
...Rick, the other thing is that Cueto will be 30 years old before the season starts so I don't see a team giving him a deal that will take him to the age of 37 or older. He may or may not get more than $20 Mil a year but if so, I don't think it will substantially more. ...this whole off season FA pitching sweepstakes and how much they'll be paid will also be determined by the order in which Price/Greinke/Cueto sign...if Cueto signs first it will set the bar at which Price and Greinke will be proportionally paid. But say that Price signs first, I don't think Greinke will get more while I think Cueto will get less.
After being traded to the Royals he went 4-7 with an ERA near 5. During the post season he gave up 15 runs in 25 innings. BTW: He earned $10M this past season. After turning down $120M from the Diamondbacks it is now believed that he's looking for 6 years in the area of $150M & yeah Ron if any team is dumb enough to give him anywhere near that Grienke & Price with demand a small fortune.
...and that's just it...I mean if I'm a GM considering Cueto, I'm wondering which version of him I'll get. Was he somewhat exposed by facing better hitting and the DH in the AL?...or was it just an extended hiccup? ...and if I'm that same GM, and if I were willing to give Cueto $150 Mil, I'd spend another $5 Mil per year and sign Grienke...but then again, Greinke was not as dominant in the AL either. ...I think both Greinke and Cueto will end up in the NL.
