Christian Red of Sports wire is reporting that Barry Bonds is being eyed for the Marlins hitting coach job. If hired he'll be expected to tutor slugger Giancarlo Stanton. Actually not a bad hire. Makes a lot more sense then a team hiring Mark McGwire as a hitting coach. And speaking of McGwire its also reported that he'll be brought in by the Padres as there new bench coach.
Oh shit, so much for the neighborhood, I hope to hell McGwire IS on his way to SD, cause I cannot stand to see Mark in the local dugout. But Bench Coach, shit, you gotta' be kidding, me, McGwire is not Managerial Material.......IMO....!
In his book "Number One" Billy Martin stated that he made getting rid of Bobby Bonds one of his first priorities. I remember old Barry being a total jerk in Pittsburgh unable to throw out "Tugbaoat" Sin Breem. Van Slyke motioned for Bonds to play more shallow on Cabrera and Bonds flipped him off. One can say "but he was a great player" (halo effect) but the man cheated his way to what I hope is a failure to make the Hall of Fame. I feel sorry for Donnie Baseball because you know Bonds will be a huge hot dog and Bogart for the press. If I wrote my additional feelings on that individual I'd be banned from the board.
Michael I agree with all BUT........most believe Bonds began his PED career in 1999 after seeing all the attention McGwire & Sosa got during there 1998 HR chase, and at that time he had already won (I believe) 3 MVPs, 8 GGs & was already near 500 HRs & 500 SBs. I only mention this because he was already on his way to a nice future HOF career & didn't have to cheat. But much like the talents of fellow idiots A-Roid & Clemens his ego got the best of him.
No matter what line one is in when ego outruns ability or reality the results are not likely to be pretty. Bonds is not the only one who stepped on it with track shoes, but he, A-hole, McGuire and Clemens are the top rankers.
