Few pitchers on this year's free-agent market are more prized than Zack Greinke. After having his best season since winning the Cy Young Award in 2009, the veteran right-hander is about to cash in no matter where he eventually lands.

Dodgers or Giants Expected to Sign Greinke
    Tuesday, Dec. 1
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported the San Francisco Giants or Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to sign Greinke "by the end of the week," and the Dodgers remain the favorite.

On Nov. 30, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reported both teams were showing serious interest in signing Greinke this offseason.

Greinke Setting Price at $30 Million Annually

    Monday, Nov. 30

While $30 million isn't an unreasonable salary for an ace in today's game, Crasnick wondered how much Greinke's age, 32, might impact any negotiations.

Greinke finished 2015 with a record of 19-3 and a 1.66 earned run average. According to FanGraphs, his FIP was a full run higher (2.76), but he still finished with the Seventh Highest WAR- (5.9) among all pitchers.

Even with his impressive record, you can understand why teams might balk at the idea of signing him to a five- or six-year deal, similar to Justin Verlander's extension. The New York Yankees haven't gotten a great return on CC Sabathia's Eight Year $186 Million extension, either.

Greinke might well receive something approaching the annual salary he's initially asking, but he may have to compromise on the length of the contract.

Rob honestly for that price I'd rather the Giants DON'T sign him. Resign Leake & hope that Cain can return to form.

I hear you Rick, I think only the Bums have ridiculous deep pockets, to pay Greinke his due, tho' I think this is fkd up B.S.

pay for performance???? That is what I want to see in MLB before I head to the big diamond in the corn fields......

Also a fair bet Greinke won't come close to his 2015 numbers again.
He is an absolute top ace and I could envision if this were 2017-18, the Yanks would reach out for him although he may not be a NY kind of guy.
Mucho press andf scrutiny in the Big Apple.
But that's another story- this about the "Bums" and "Jints".
Let them be on the hook for 30 mil per for the next few years.
Hope they sign a few more long monster deals...lol

The Yanks will get another chance at a top free agent when they drop the salary of a small market team after the 2017 season.

I've never implied the Yanx can even make a bid for Zack. Personally, I'd expect Greinke to be worth 2 more great years, 1 good one, 2 par ones. That's 5 yrs, let's see who the fool is, to give him >$33Mil + per year.

Not sure how many years He will get, yet, I'd try my damndest to keep him at 5 yrs, or pitching at age 37, then let him go where someone wants a 38 yr old, then some......

...The Traveling Wilburys...George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison...front to back, it's still one of my fav all time albums. I was never that much of a Dylan fan till that album came out...like I said, great tunes from front to back.

...Matts, my head started playing those Wilburys tunes, so I cued up the album and alternated from using my Onkyo/Bose system to my old Marantz/Sansui system...IMO, there's a lot lost with digital recording compared to the "warM sound of the old analog LPs...believe it or not, I miss the hiss/hum/crackle of vinyl records...I still have about 6-7 hundred.

I began to listen to Dylan from the start as a pretty young kid. Love his Folk Anthems. Then my world was turned upside down with "Highway 61 Revisted, and Blonde on Blonde". My favorite Dylan LP, "Blood On the Tracks". Not to mention Emmylou Harris did his background vocals on his follow up to BOTT, as she did a year prior on Neil Young's "American Stars and Bars", ie "Homegrown's alright with me, homegrown is the way it should be".

I didn't get to see Dylan play in person until 1979 at the Forum. The one thing different about seeing or going to a Dylan Concert, was the entire 18,998 person's in the Forum, got out of their seats, and crowded tight around the Stage. Less me and my buddy, who stayed in our Seats, on a Mezz just above the heads of that huge crowd.

I've seen shitloads of concerts, the Forum was reserved for BIG name Bands, ie Led Zeppelin, Zappa, Bowie, to Fleetwood Mac, et al. I had front and center seats at both bands shows, by simply being the 1st in line at the ticket windows at the Forum.....what a effing show those were.....

shit, I could spend all day listing all the nightclub shows, to big venue stadiums, I've seen. Kind of fortunate to live this close to Los Angeles, but its got its downfalls too. This area has quickly became L.A.'s 92 Riots dumping grounds of Section 8 blacks, from South Central........one reason I live outside of town...

Aye, You can't get it out of your head neither, LOL....:notworthy::notworthy2:

Wow, 59, you've got me beat. I should of never given away 500 plus Vinyl's to a kid who was severely disabled, and only had a Mail Order Record business, to try and help see this kid flourish. Tho' in time, I bought back most of those but in Cassette's, which like you, I prefer Vinyl still. Good to see Vinyl is making a re-resurgence, snap, pop, crackle....
Your equipment is superior to mine also, I've got pure Onkyo Stadium Sound, 5.2

Hell, I bet if you take your sound system outside, put it on "11" (Yeah, Spinal Tap "11"), not only would you blow your neighbors windows out, one could hear your music all the way to Perry.....! :bgrin:

...lol...hell, I've still got my same Technics turntable from my DJ days...Shure cartridge and Shure stylus (M55E I think)
...I really don't listen to my music so loud that it starts to distort. And though I like a little bass that my subwoofer gives me, I especially enjoy hearing the high end from the added on extra tweeters.

    eh tu Rick...!

Touche, my Friend, you've got a large genre of music in your library as well. The Inventory you sent me last year, was/is mind boggling....I love all those great ol' ELO tunes. IMO, Jeff Lynne was very underated up until perhaps of late, ie the Hyde Park concert had 50,000 fans in attendance.....
