Watching CCTV (lost the radio reception of 620) talking about the Climate Change summit. The Chinese explained the reason for the Carbon tax! Never heard it before. What a perverse way to think! If you raise the cost of carbon based fuels, coal, oil, gas, and even wood, then Green energy becomes more competitive. The Chinese like the idea since they pretty much have the market on solar panels and are going for small wind generators. Then the tax money collected can be used to help the poor around the world upgrade to more energy efficient stuff which China is the major producer. Not one word about how it helps meet the targets in restricting the rise in temperature though. I would like to see that explained. Right now it looks like 1.5 to 2.0 degrees Celsius might be the cap they set. The Chinese will be paying the tax along with everyone else, but apparently will come out ahead since they will benefit the most from the new taxes being spent on products they make. The tax on wood burning is an interesting one. Tax the carbon release in burning, and in my case, that is dead trees I clean up on my property. The carbon is release (which the trees gleaned from the air) by rotting or burning. When I clean up the dead, I plant new young trees to soak up more CO2. This tax seem to be a useless tax on the natural cycle. Then there is the slight misfit of actually replacing oil with solar. To generate power to run the electrical systems on my sail boat, I use a diesel generator. No way can I get enough solar panels on there to replace the diesel engine. No way can they put enough tax on the diesel fuel to make solar panels competitive even if I had the room. But I think we will see the first tax begin soon, probably this coming February starting here in Oregon. Damn! I am ready for Trump, Obama is a disaster.
It could also have to do with the fact that Chinese cities are becoming uninhabitable due to smog. That seems to be just as motivating as any economic advantage that they might gain. http://m.nydailynews.com/news/world...y-smog-reaches-toxic-levels-article-1.2451344 Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Smog isn't bad. Volcanoes can produce smog. That means god makes smog. We do the Chinese and the Obama people hate god?
Actually volcanoes produce tiny triangular shards of black glass called Vog...not smog but it'll fuck up you lungs in a heartbeat..use to have to clean that stuff out of my water tank all the time on the Big Island
The carbon tax does not remove smog. It only makes it cost more to make. But it appears they will take in more revenue than they pay in tax. I think you will get a chance to see how it works for you this coming year.
Its called economic motivation and it does produces less smog as it becomes less economicly viable to produce non green energy. Global warming isnt the only reason to limit pollution, clean air and water also are important. The other option is to go unregulated like China did, then impose government restrictions on manufacting and driving when no one can breath to try and get polution levels down. I like our aproach better.
Really! LA was as bad as China is on air quality. Pretty clean now. With "our approach" we will pay the tax, probably here in Oregon real soon. China will too if it works to their advantage. You don't really believe they will go from being the largest consumer of carbon based fuels, to green do you? You can't make steel with a solar panel! But you and your buddies may buy enough stuff from them so the carbon tax they pay doesn't matter, just part of the cost of doing business.
LA did it, in a big part, with catalytic converters and government regulation of car emission test. This was the "green" technology of its day and it took decades to convince deniers of this fact. Denial was aided by auto and oil funding...... sound familar? http://www.marketplace.org/2014/07/...be-china/la-smog-battle-against-air-pollution
Oh I remember the day, LA was awful! But it did get improved, without a Carbon tax. I don't remember any deniers of LA being awful. But I want to go back to the point, China's Point. They know they need to clean up the air and they say they are doing so. What surprised me is, they are on the verge of embracing the Carbon tax system, not because it will help them clean up the air, (it doesn't), but because they see themselves benefiting from You and Me, Europe and the rest of the world paying the tax which will end up in their pocket, as they see it. Not my message, I am only relaying the message. I don't think the powers that be will find me heating my house with wood real soon, but I bet you start paying that tax heating your house next winter. Your tax dollars will be used to help some poor dude somewhere buy a new refrigerator and maybe some sent to Botswana to buy a Solar panel for lights instead of burning buffalo chips. Remember, the chips give up the carbon one way or the other no matter what! Short of freezing them.
Really? You don't remember cars with California Emission Standards that were hundreds of dollars more than cars in the rest of the country for the increased pollution controls that they had? That's pretty the same thing as a tax.
No it is not. It was a direct cost of the equipment rushed into service in a limited market to meet the mandate. The carbon tax is nothing close to the same, and it will not clean any air anywhere. And the taxes collected are not even targeted to be spent trying. The Port of Long Beach is all electric now, even the trucks. They burn the oil on the other side of the mountain to gen the power but that is another story, You are not going to get cleaner air in LA from this tax. I invite you guys to provide hard evidence of where it will improve a damn thing, especially in Oregon. We will see it first.
China TV talking more about climate change and the benefits of a carbon tax. They showed the Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Zimbabwe walking with their leader. The Chinese expect Zimbabwe to have a lot more money when the carbon tax get implemented world wide. China is already the largest supplier of stuff to Zimbabwe an most of Africa. I gather, Africa is expected to be the only continent that comes out as a net receiver of carbon tax revenues when the system is implemented. China will be ready.
Xi Jinping while in Africa stopped in to see the South Africans. Kind of hard to understand some of the reporters on the China TV, but it seems China want to use a different Stock Exchange to trade assets and raise Capital. Looking to use the South African Exchange and get out from under some of the US oversight and taxation?? Gather up some of the Carbon Tax money they expect to come to Africa, out of the view of the US. Wonder what all this means?
"Chinese warships participating in anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden and extracting nationals from conflict zones in Libya and Yemen." Hey! I see this as a good thing. Do the same in the South China sea. Funny, they know some uses of warships that Obama and Hillary never thought about.
