    Well how 'bout that!
Looks like the Hollywood dodgers and sf Giants could be getting a run for their money.

ESPN says 6 years for $206. Over $34 million a year. I don't even know what to say with the money at this point.

    Yup....
Speaking of 1 mil per start------> after the fancy accountants do their work, how about a 45% fed tax rate for earned income over 1mil per year?...and of course local and state also get their turn.

That should "fix" a couple of things.

I'm just surprised that the Dodgers didn't re-sign him, God knows they have the money. BTW I heard there is no opt-out clause in the contract.

    From: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2595945-diamondbacks-strike-for-zack-greinke-stuns-baseball-world

Know this about Greinke, too: He is one of the sharpest players in the game, with the analytical mind of a baseball executive.

When he signed with the Dodgers before the 2013 season, he had studied their farm system and knew about a couple of very young prospects (at the time) named Corey Seager and Joc Pederson.

When he pitched for Milwaukee in the spring of 2012, he talked personnel with Brewers executives and joined some of them on a scouting trip over to Arizona State University to watch a game and look at some players.

When he was at the All-Star Game in 2014, he spoke at length the day before the game, reeling off several statistics, accurately, when discussing whether the Dodgers at the time were underachieving or about where they should be. He also spoke knowingly about a couple of the game’s biggest contracts at that time and where some upcoming free agents should land, financially.

“The teams are greedier than the players, just so you know,” Greinke quipped that day........

In all honesty this move doesn't make an ounce of sense. So the D'Backs have Goldschmidt, and stink like a dead rattle snake, IMO, I don't see where or when this Team is going to ever see a Post Season for the term of Greinke's contract.........I just don't see it....!!

I sure as hell don't think LaRussa will figure his position out, let alone Dave Stewart pull of the charade of being a GM. This is the same Dave Stewart, who the L.A.P.D. caught in a downtown L.A. Alleyway, getting head from a Transvestite.....sure he could pitch, but both lack upper brass level experience, and I don't foresee either being able to shine in these positions upstairs. Just my 2 cents, and that won't even buy ya' a stick of Bazooka gum.....or a tootsie roll....

I can't see LaRussa ever having the success he had as a Mgr., neither do I foresee Stewart every knowing his ass from a hole in the desert, sure he could pitch, and will probably go down as another head case, GM, sound familiar....?

...like I said the other day, when it comes to negotiate a new labor agreement I don't wanna hear any crying from the owners about how they're losing money.

A bit of a surprise, oh well, he'll be getting well paid to wear those ugly new D-backs laundry. I agree with Matts, two superb players riding with a bunch of to this point also rans.

The Backs were 79-83 last season & aside from Goldschmidt they do have some decent players in C- Welington Castillo 17/50/255, LF- David Peralta 17/78/312 & CF - A.J. Pullock 20/76/315 But there pitching staff was led by Rubby DeLaRosa 14-9 with a 4.67 ERA. Not a strong staff. NOW.......................Will Grienke make them contenders? IMO he'll put them over 500 83-85 wins but I just don't think there will be enough there to over take the Dodgers or the Giants who hasn't made a move yet but are expected to go strong after one of the remaining SPs & a LF Upton or Cespedes over the next week.

Goldy is a heckuva hitter- and I wouldn't be surprised if the snakes seriously contend for the div (or WC) this year.
