Re: Telfair Doesn't Sweat Facing Old Team

SEATTLE - Sebastian Telfair will be returning to his first NBA home tonight, but he won?t be on any individualistic missions. Yes, the Trail Blazers gave up on him two years after taking him right out of Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., with the 13th pick overall in the 2004 NBA draft, but Telfair insists he?s seeking only to win a game with the Celtics [team stats], not make Portland look foolish for letting him go. ?I don?t feel I have anything to prove to anybody over there, to tell you the truth,? said Telfair, who missed yesterday morning?s shootaround with a cold but was able to play last night against the Sonics. ?I want to go out there and play well, but that?s every night. I?m sure they?re watching me and seeing what I can do.? ?I?m not going to say it doesn?t mean anything. I?m excited to go back there. I love playing in that arena, and the thing I?m looking at the most is playing in front of those fans. Those people were good to me.? Telfair played for three coaches - Maurice Cheeks, Kevin Pritchard and Nate McMillan - in two years in Portland, but he believes it was Zach Randolph?s health that ultimately got him traded. People in the organization, he said, felt their games didn?t mesh. ?We never got a chance to really see,? Telfair said. ?I didn?t get a chance to play with Zach my first year because he was hurt, and my second year he came in hurt. I never really got a chance to play with him at his best. I was playing with him at 60 percent, which really slowed the pace of the game down. And that hurt me.? Of course, the Blazers were going through a number of issues off the court with player behavior, as well as in the front office. ?There was a lot going on,? Telfair said. ?But I still liked it there and wanted it to work.?http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...rticleid=174784[IMG]

Hopefully this will spark him and get him going and he will start playing well again, because he has been arguably our worst point guard of late, with Rondo playing well in his minutes, and Delonte playing well at the 1 until he got hurt.

This is my article on this (my blog):

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><div align="center"><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Telfair Faces Old Team</span></div>

    <div align="center">[IMG]</div>

Tonight, Sebastian Telfair will face his old team, the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland drafted Telfair with the 13th overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft, but they gave up on the New York high school legend after just two seasons. In June, the Blazers shipped Telfair (along with Theo Ratliff and a 2008 2nd round draft pick) to the Boston Celtics for Raef LaFrentz, Dan Dickau, and the #7 pick in the draft (which was Randy Foye, in which they traded to Minnesota for the draft rights to rookie Brandon Roy, who was picked 6th).

Sebastian has struggled at times in Boston, and he is in a major offensive slump as of right now, but he'll be ready to go in Portland tonight with no worries or funny feelings. The last time Sebastian faced his old team was in mid-November, in Boston, where the Celtics won the game 118-90. Sebastian had a very good game that night, scoring 15 points (on 6-10 shooting) and dishing 7 assists.

However, Sebastian just had a very rough month of December. In November, Sebastian played well, and posted averages of 10.9 points and 4.4 assists per game on 48% shooting. December, however, was a completely different story. Telfair only shot 31% from the floor, he only scored 6.2 points per game, and he only dished 3.5 assists per game. Also, he lost his starting job to Delonte West. Hopefully Sebastian can get back into the way he was playing in October and November, or we are going to have some real problems this season, especially if Rajon Rondo keeps improving and playing well when given a chance. Tonight is the perfect place to start a string of good games: in Portland against his old team and coaches.

Other things to note about the game tonight:

    * The old leather ball returns! This is good and bad. Good because this is what the players wanted, but bad because the Celtics have very little time to practice with this ball before the game.
    * Raef LaFrentz and Dan Dickau, who played for the Celtics last season, will be on the bench for Portland. LaFrentz appeared in just 7 games this season, averaging 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.4 minutes per game. Dickau has played in 16 games, averaging 2.1 points and 0.8 assists per game.
    * Delonte West's status for this game is uncertain (back).</div>

Yes, paint does work magic haha. I had to bring it into paint and cut off some of the edges to re-size it, so it would fit on the blog.

Exactly, he just didn't fit with the system. Portland's system is a half-court set, run through Zach Randolph, and Nate McMillan is a very structured coach. Sebastian needs to be in an up-tempo environment where he can use his speed to his advantage and play freely. I REALLY hope it works out here on Boston. I love the kid's heart, passion, the fact that he's a born leader, and he has a lot of skills/potential.
