...do you recall what was the very first musical recording you ever bought with your OWN money? (record or cassette or CD) ...I remember mine vividly...after seeing this American Bandstand show I talked Mom into buying me this 45 rpm from a J C Penney store while she was buying me school clothes. (I think it was about $.40 back then) I played it over and over and over on a record player someone had given me...and I quickly became forever hooked on music. ...but as far as using my own money, I also remember it clearly...after wearing out the grooves on Maybelline, I scraped up enough allowance, and Coke bottles to allow me to buy this hot tune at the time; ...I also remember playing the "flip side" occasionally... ("Don'y Worry Baby")
And if memory serves my first album was either the Beach boys "All summer long" or "Meet the Beatles".
..."school boy crush"?...hmmm, lemme guess, you had a crush on "Randy"? ...j/k...I remember that song well.
My very 1st Vinyl's all came around the same year; The 1st 45's I vividly recall buying, with my own money, (coke bottle scavenging as well)- was: "Pretty Woman", and - the 45 of "I Want To Hold Your Hand", not for that tune, but for its B Side- "I Saw Her Standing There", a nice 45 for young puppy love "pre-pubers"...... 1st LP, 33 1/3 was Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire", but I didn't have to buy the LP, I was in Sears with my Dad, while he was looking at TV's, I was checking out that LP, my old man liked Johnny Cash, and bought it for me, and He played it as often as I did.....
