Screw the lotto - why would we want to draft somebody like that Davis kid.

(Grabs popcorn and waits for someone to claim Davis sucks.)

The fundamental flaw in your cynical post...

Its not guaranteed. Its why would we want a CHANCE to draft....

We're 5th in lotto order now and we have a shot at 4th. I'm rooting for us to win unless we completely fall out of playoff position or if Dame sits out the season. Then I'll just sit back and dream of Ben Simmons,

What would it take for us (other than CJ) to get another lottery pick? I'd love to end up with something like the 4th and 7th picks (like the magical draft of 2006) and be able to get 2 of Dunn, Brown, Labissiere, Murray, Ingram, or Bender.

Paul Allen is richer than many NBA owners. Could any be bought off?

Probably not enough. I think taking on salary might be our best bet. I think our #1 goal should be to find a way to get another mid lottery pick without giving up CJ, because it gives us the ability to do a lot of different things in the off-season. Something like

MIN Gets: Meyers Leonard, Noah Vonleh, ~20th pick (DET), Future 1st (POR)
POR Gets: ~7th pick (MIN top 3 protected) Zach Lavine, Nikola Pekovic
DET Gets: Gerald Henderson, Chris Kaman

Buyout Pekovic, allocate it all to this year's cap. Taking his contract of Minnys hands is incentive for them to do this. We might have to give MIN.

This would leave us with the 5th and 7th pick, which could leave us with 2 options.

1.) Package a combination of CJ, the 5th, and 7th picks for a great player or pick. Options I could see:
    CJ+5th+7th+filler for DeMarcus Cousins
CJ+5th+7th+Future First for the 1st pick
    5th+7th+filler for Eric Bledsoe
    7th+filler for Brook Lopez
    7th+Future1st+filler? for 2nd pick (Ingram?)

    2.) Keep the picks
At 5, take Skal Labbissiere, Jaylen Brown, or Dragan Bender
At 7, take Jakob Poeltl, Jamal Murray, or Kris Dunn

    Lillard / Lavine
    Murray / McCollum
    Aminu / Crabbe
    Bender / Davis
    Plumlee / FA Center

3.) We win the lottery, draft Ben Simmons, then try to trade up from 7 to 5 (7+Future pick?) so we can get Labissiere, Bender, or Brown

    Lillard / Lavine
    Crabbe / McCollum
    FA SF (Parsons?) / Aminu
    Simmons / Bender
    Plumlee / Davis

    Or

    Lillard / Lavine
    Crabbe / McCollum
    Simmons / Aminu
    Bender / (Combo of Simmons/Aminu)
    FA C (Whiteside?) / Davis

Dude that's not enough to get the 7th pick by itself, let alone zach Levine. The kid is special. He has been playing very well this season.

I haven't been keeping tabs. Take out Lavine then. I think without it it's likely enough, especially since we're ridding then of a bad contract

    Win the championship
    Win a playoff series
    Make the playoffs
    Win the game
    Play hard

Being a fan, my top desire is to see the Blazers win a championship. I’d be happy to give up any lower goal to achieve a higher goal. For example, I’d be happy to lose a game, if that meant a better matchup in the playoffs and a better chance of advancing to a playoff series win.

It’s becoming clear that we won’t be making the playoffs this year. A win doesn’t help achieve any higher goals. At this point, I want to see the Blazers play hard. I’m okay with a loss if it gives us a chance to draft a quality player that will help the Blazers achieve higher goals in the years to come.

I believe you can buy a draft pick for 3mil...I think Paul Allen did that not so long ago and I think you can only do it once a year..not sure..Schilly knows this stuff pretty well

He's bought draft picks, but I'm pretty certain he's never landed a lottery pick for a measly 3m that I remember.

EDIT: I think they have bought picks in the 20's
