they will keep going up because for some ridiculous reason Oregon won't have a sales tax...but even with the cost of property tax...a bill you have to budget for every year..it's nothing like throwing away rent money with no equity

 

We won't pass a sales tax because we know that they won't get rid of a property tax. They'll find a way to justify having both.... like.... "it's for the children!"

I too was displaced from my modest Lake Oswego neighborhood as a young adult, mostly by wealthy black basketball stars who brought marauding entourages of gangsters and drug dealers, wreaking havoc with the greens at Oswego Lake Country Club and scaring little old ladies out of Vip's Diner. Why can't they stay in NEP and keep dviss happy? Why do they not see the allure of squalor and decay?

 

My friend in Dallas, TX, which has a total sales tax of 8.25%, is selling his home for about 2/3 what mine would sell for right now, and it's assessed at about 2/3 what mine is assessed at.

Despite paying sales tax, which I do not, his property tax is a whopping 45% higher than mine.

She doesn't fit the poor white trash stereotype but she's from Portland. I saw meth zombies in Vancouver the first day I was visiting in October of 2014. We crossed the 205 bridge at 9am and stopped at the Walmart right off the freeway.

There were 2 junkies in the parking lot stumbling towards the entrance. They sat on the power scooter and plugged in their phones to charge them.

It was weird to see more druggies in Vancouver than Las Vegas.

They should have both. I do believe that the property tax should unbind itself from the value of your home. That's the reason why it keeps going up. Home values are going to continue to rise.
