This is why Adam Silver is the commissioner of the NBA, he's smart. Saving face before the fans inevitably vote Kobe into the all star game. It's not the stance I'd wished he would take, but it's probably the right one for him to.
I haven't read the thread, but I had to respond to the thread title. Who cares what Adam Silver thinks? Instead of criticizing Kobe for not playing in the All-Star Game, why doesn't Adam Silver play in it, if it's so easy?
Both Duncan and Leonard have more votes and when it come down to it Dirk, Jordan, Howard and Cousins will get the nod. Aldridge is very questionable at best this year.
