You want to improve the attitude and performance of police officers? Give them adequate funding for better recruitment screening and on-the-job training. Ever worked with an ex-police officer? Ask them how many of hours of weapon or self defense training they got..... Ask the government shrinks to come up with acceptable psychological profiles for hiring..... Most (not all) of liberals don't want to run off the cops, they want police to respect the laws they are charged with upholding. Keep citizens safe, not risk the lives of citizens for their own jollies. Ripcityboy, you are correct, money will be needed, to better train, to better provide, to better employ the right people as officers. Also, laws, foci and protocol will need to be addressed so that violent, predatory and dangerous people become the focus of the police, and not speeders, druggies, mentally ill and the indigent.
Starting Jan 1st the new pot tax goes into effect, a large portion going to police. Liberals smoke pot, liberals voted for legalization and tax, liberals supporting police. I think Marazul should support the police and smoke some pot.

The average beat cop makes roughly 3 times what he would in any of the few other careers she/he might succeed in, but many could not survive Army boot camp. Quite a few of them are realistically unemployable due to mental/anger issues. Yet they are given guns and an implied license to kill anyone they think looks "threatening". Cop bosses make more money than they ever dreamed of. Their arsenals rival that of small nations, and their actual service to society is reams of paperwork done after the crime is committed, chronicling the sad details and filing them away. America's thousands of police-armies need to be drastically downsized, and dialed back ballistically. Americans need to take back their responsibility to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their country from bad eggs and fear-mongerers.

Bad training and bad priorities certainly contribute to the problem. OTOH, don't righties believe in personal responsibility? Why should individual bad cops get a free pass.
Could say the same about the people these rogue police officers have killed. Except its straight to the morgue, no trial.
Oh there's a lot of money in the departments. It just doesn't go to the beat cops. I think their starting wage is 30/hr or around there. I wouldn't want to deal with the fuck-wads of society for 30/hr, that's for sure. Lot of money for some people sure... but not so much for risking your life possibly daily.
