After all the hype coming out of Lincoln HS, Sebastian Telfair was the 13th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. He played with Portland for two losing seasons. After his 2nd year in Portland, his skills were starting to become a little bit more developed but Portland still traded him to Boston on draft night, giving up on him right after two years. Here he is in Boston, playing alongside of superstar SF Paul Pierce, and many other young players. He's had a struggling season in Boston so far, but thats because he has to play with a bunch of other PGs. Recently, Boston has been riddled with injuries ridiculously, therefore they've called Sebastian's number more often. Given the opporunities, he still doesn't do that well. Both his FG% and 3PT% arent very impressive numbers. He's struggling to look for his own shot, but still manages to playing within the offense fairly well. He's pretty good at setting up plays for his teamates, and he has a pretty good attitude. I like this kid a lot, but a lot of people say that he's already a bust. What do you guys think?
I gauarantee that all Celtic Fans will now dismember you very soon But my real thoughts are that he has a lot of improvement left, I mean his points could be up, seeing as the depleted Celtics team could use more scoring, and needs to pass more, I mean his 4 assists Pergame are good enough, but for him to get to the next level, thats another element he needs to work on.

I've followed his game closely ever since his days at Lincoln HS. I never called him a bust. It's just everyone considers him a bust now, but not me. I just created this topic to get other people's views on this.

Since Pierce went down West has taken over his spot as the starting point guard.
I honestly don't think you can call anyone a bust until their career is over. It is only then that it is fair to judge them.
He's a bust at the moment IMO but he still has pleanty of years to improve and become a better all round ball player, so although I would say hes a bust, I wouldn't say hes completley busted..

I didn't expect big things out of him anyways. But from what people hyped him to be when he was younger, I still feel he can do a lot more. And based on what I've heard, he should be stepping it up.
I think there is just something in his head that has to click. He doesn't have the same attitude problem that affects players like him. To call someone a bust after 2 and 1/2 seasons just doesn't make since, he is 21 years old. You can say he isn't playing up to his potential YET but a bust no.
If a team takes a chance with you out of highschool I think they expect you to become a star, Telfair has done a terrible job becoming a star. If Portland gives up on you than that is a problem... He is still young and has alot of developement to do, but he got so much hype after an amazing summer league performance where everyone thought he'd become an all-star soon in the NBA to a mediocre player. Alot of 12th picks don't become alot so you can't really call him a draft bust but he definetely is a let down.
Well, I don't think he's a bust that will never improve from here, but if you are basing this off his hype and the expectations people had for him coming out of high school, then no he will never live up to that hype. I am a big Bassy supporter, but no way he ever lives up to the hype he was given (All-Star, future top 10 PG, etc.).However, he's not done improving. He still has a high ceiling, he just needs more time. The kid is 21, in his 3rd year in the NBA out of high school. The kid has the heart of a lion, he's a born leader, he's super quick, he is a good young playmaker with good court vision, he's got a good head on his shoulders, and he's a hard worker. He'll be a solid NBA player, but not a star like his previous hype suggests. While we are talking about him, WHAT HAS GONE WRONG over the last month? In summer league, preseason, and November, he was playing excellent basketball. He was attacking, he was playing very aggressive offensively, he was shooting well, he was taking it to the basket strong, he was running the offense beautifully, he was hustling, and he looked really comfortable out there. But in December, he has been a completely different player, and that's why he lost his starting job (for those that don't know, Delonte West is starting now). He is not being aggressive, he's playing very passive, he's missed layups left and right, he's not running and pushing the ball like he always has, and he hasn't even been running the offense. He has been crossing the halfcourt line and basically giving it to a wing player.Maybe when Pierce gets back, Bassy will come back (knowing that he has a guy he can deliver to in which he knows will produce). Maybe he has been a little passive because he doesn't entirely trust his younger teammates? Maybe Doc lowered his confidence level by ripping him a new ***hole every time Sebastian makes one wrong play. I don't know what it is, but I want Sebastian from October/November back.
<span style="font-family:Comic Sans MS">He might have been hyped a lot but he was the 13th overall pick, which isn't as big of a deal as people seem to make it. I don't consider Sebastian a bust. Sure, he's not playing as good as I thought he would in Boston, but that doesn't mean he's a bust. He needs time to develop. I guess Sebastian is a project.</span>
I dont think he is a bust ,I realy liek that I have always support that guys even when he was in portland and I like his move trough the fire but yeah his not a bust ,he is a great passer and plays with lot of passion
He still has plenty of time to grow...his game is nice though he'll get it together soon and be a great player. I don't think he's actually all-star material, but he'll be a good player in the league.
As most of you know, I don't like this guy at all. He's really fast and can pass the ball but I don't care for him. I wouldn't want him leading my team. I think Portland let him go for a reason and gave the reigns to Jarrett Jack because he's the better player. I think he's an overrated NYC point guard. He's still young, but I just don't see much with him. For a young 3-year player he's shown very little development which is disturbing.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Memphis Fan @ Jan 3 2007, 01:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>no, not even close to a bust IMO</div> I agree, it's way too early to call him a bust because he's only 21 years old. But the guy has shown literally no improvement in three seasons. He still has yet to shoot over 40% from the field. If Telfair was showing improvement I'd back off on the guy more but I'm saying the same things right now that I said 3 years ago about him...
