Martin's best basketball is behind him, but the biggest question I have is what the Bulls give up. Martin makes $7mil which would lead me to think Gibson or Gasol. The Bulls would need to get more than Martin for either of those guys.
I'm not really sure what this would accomplish. The Bulls have plenty of average / above average players at this point. There is depth at every position. Another average / above average player, this one in decline, isn't really going to solve anything. Would have been a really nice move several years ago for the Rip Hamilton role.
Right, I don't think you're going to get a veteran this year who can markably increase the championship prospects of this team. There are just too many teams in the playoff hunt, and you almost never see those trades come available to begin with. This would be a good year for making the brutal decision to rebuild, while Jimmy Butler is still early in his contract. I'm not ready to advocating for that yet, mind you, although I wouldn't be disappointed if that's the way the front office decided to go.
I think the big killer with KMart is that he's kind of a quirky one way player and our roster already has way too many of those. For all this team's talent it has a very difficult time putting together elite lineups because none of our guys besides Jimmy regularly play both sides of the court. This was one of the hidden benefits of having Luol Deng around, and it was something Thibs appreciated that the average fan didn't. Kmart would just exacerbate this problem since having him on the court would mean we couldn't pair him with Doug, a Rose/Brooks backcourt, and so on. If the Bulls make a move at the deadline it needs to be for a 30 mpg guy who can play in both offensive and defensive lineups. I'm thinking of a Wes Matthews/Will Barton type of guy.
