    Per Adamn Portzline. http://www.blueshirtbanter.com/2016...ork-rangers-kicking-the-tires-on-cam-atkinson

This might have some legs. If you remember back to the deadline last year, Cam was involved in a potential swap for Zucc before we got him signed. So the front office has been in on him for at least a year. And if recent history is an indication, they usually eventually get their guy (Nash, Yandle, etc.).

Couple thoughts on this. First, I LOVE Atkinson. He's a right shot (need), shoot-first player (need) who can play in the top 6 (need). 2 more years after this at 3.5m.

The drawback is a few things. First, CBJ just traded Johansen so they're already a little thin up front. Second, and maybe more importantly, Torts apparently loves Atkinson. If Torts opinion carries so much weight that they ran Johansen out of town, it might be difficult to pry away Atkinson. And of course, salary is a concern.

Portzline's interview said that Columbus isn't done after RyJo, but is still looking to "remake the locker room." Which brings me to Girardi.

It has recently come out that Girardi does NOT have a NTC, but he has a LIMITED no trade clause. AKA-there's a list of certain teams he can't be traded to. Is CBJ on that list? Who knows. When he signed his deal (and presumably handed in his list), a) Torts wasn't coaching there, and b) CBJ seemed to be on the up and up. I know they already have Seth Jones and Savard on the right, but that line about "looking to remake the locker room" may be the key here.

Again, if Torts opinion carries some weight there (and he obviously loves G), and G didnt list CBJ, can we get Atkinson for Girardi and Etem? What do we need to add to also get Rychel, who is wasting in the minors and wants out?

    Nash-Brassard-Zuccarello
    Kreider-Stepan-Atkinson
    Lindberg-Hayes-Miller
    Rychel-Moore-Fast

On defense, this gets Big Mac back in the line up and also may free up enough space to get Yandle under contract. On the down side, somebody (probably McD) would have to play the right.

    Let's see what happens.

Small forward. Not sure that is what this team needs. I go back to King on the Kings. He's the type of forward we need to add. With them adding Vinny, he doesn't have much of a roster spot there.

Ok Prod, I'm in!! Call Gorton and make it happen. LOL. Moving girardi's contract alone makes it a winner and gets big mac back in the lineup

Well yeah, ideally, but you can't just shout out a name and expect it to happen. You need to look for a guy that's (a) available, and (b) on a team that's a match for a deal. What are we giving to get Ladd? What futures do we have to win a bidding war for probably the hottest rental forward? Why isn't WPG going to resign their captain?

Every year they want this Atkinson kid for some reason. Nice, smallish player but not sure if he is a sniper this team has been missing since Gaborik left.

I could be 100% wrong, but I just don't see the Rangers dealing Girardi. Not saying I would or wouldn't do a deal like that, just saying I think AV and Gorton really value him. Who knows though.

I think the Jets would still look to re-sign Ladd even if they deal him as a rental. I don't think that would affect him coming back either way. They won't re-up during the season so why not gain some assets also? I agree we are probably down the pecking line in terms of what it might cost, even though he's not a superstar or anything. I'd be willing to start with a 1st and Miller plus maybe a non top 3 prospect.

Pass on Atkinson. He's good but we don't need another small forward

Disagree with everyone saying that. We are no longer a small team. We dumped both Hagelin and MSL, two of the smallest guys in the league, and their replacements are bigger. The way this team is constructed I'm much more worried about scoring depth than size.

If it's Kreider I pass. Atkinson isn't good enough to warrant that. Plus, I doubt Torts wants him.

I wonder if teams are calling about McIlrath? God I'd hate to lose him.

The Rangers for the near future, 5 to 7 years, are not even on the same
ice with Blackhawks, Kings when it comes to forming yearly teams. Hawks
and Kings always know which players will complete their squads.....
for their yearly Stanley Cup run. Caps are getting there with their
    strong CORE.
    Rangers do not have comparable CORE with these teams;
it always seems they do not obtain those additional players to put them over
    the hump.
"If we obtain this player or players we will................." and then
next year the fans are it again. "If.........." and then the year after
that we are begging for different players..... this is the nature
of being a New York Ranger fan.

This team is tiny. Just watch them when they play Washington. It's obvious. Their bigger players play like pansy, 5-5 forwards.
