Source: everybody. Damn. Expected Hollins gone, but wanted to take advantage of Billy King a few more times. Can you say firesale?
I keep seeing people say they won't have a firesale because they don't have their pick, but that's kind of stupid to me. That pick is a sunk cost. It's gone. Trying to win so it's not as good a pick for Boston is dumb. Figure out who you want around, who might attract an ok free agent or something, and ditch the rest. Should have a good chunk of cap space next year as well. Maybe they want to open more, by dumping young?
No it's not stupid. Getting rid of your assets for pennies on the dollar without an incentive (like a high draft pick) is stupid.
The problem is even if they have a firesale they won't get much back in return. Cap space won't attract top free agents if the team is terrible. They really have no good options.
The incentive would lie in trying to identify players outside of your organization you feel you could potentialy build around. If, IF, you feel like some of the ones within you do not want to build around. If you can get a prospect or some sort of pick for Young or Brook, AND you don't feel like they are someone you are building around, you move them, without fear of how much worse you get, because you already don't have your pick.
